SC high school football Week 2 predictions

1 of 6
Allendale-Fairfax (2-0) at Midland Valley (0-1)
The Mustangs took one on the chin last week with a season-opening, 49-0 loss at North Augusta. The first game at L.L. Willis Stadium should be much more competitive. Allendale-Fairfax is a Class A school, but don't underestimate the Tigers. They're 2-0 and won those games by a combined score of 100-7. Yikes. Midland Valley's offense won't be able to keep up. PREDICTION: Allendale-Fairfax wins 28-21
2 of 6
Aiken (0-1) at Beaufort (0-1)
My only miss from last week's predictions was Aiken's loss to Silver Bluff. Had Aiken just kicked a 29-yard field goal as time expired, I would have been perfect. But the Hornets gambled and lost, meaning they're still looking for their first win. Class AAAA Beaufort, who was shutout last week against Wando, won't be an easy opponent, but Aiken should have the offense together and defensive holes plugged. PREDICTION: Aiken wins 21-7
3 of 6
South Aiken (0-2) at Northwestern (2-0)
This nonregion schedule South Aiken has is absolutely brutal, and it doesn't get any easier with the Thoroughbreds' starting quarterback on the bench recovering from a hand injury. He's out again this week and the offense will have a hard time keeping up with Northwestern, which has already scored 104 points in its first two games. PREDICTION: Northwestern wins 35-14
4 of 6
Saluda (2-0) at Strom Thurmond (0-1)
The best 0-1 team in the state took last week off before playing host to Saluda this Friday. Strom Thurmond's lone loss came to a private school powerhouse from Maryland. Saluda's two wins were over a pair of teams with losing records last year. The Rebels beat the Tigers 35-0 last season, and I expect the same thing to happen this time around. PREDICTION: Strom Thurmond wins 35-7
5 of 6
Silver Bluff (1-0) at Southside Christian (1-1)
It's a good thing Silver Bluff fans got to see a victory last week, because the team won't play at home again for a month. The first of three consecutive road games starts this week with a 250-mile round trip to Simpsonville, S.C. Southside Christian can score points, but that defense has too many holes for Silver Bluff's Wing-T. PREDICTION: Silver Bluff wins 24-6
6 of 6
North Augusta (1-0) vs. Valdosta (0-0)
This game is part of the National High School Gridiron Challenge at North Gwinnett High School and will be played Saturday at noon in front of a cable television audience. This is big boy football. North Augusta got a compliment by simply being invited to play at an event like this. Valdosta is a Class AAAAAA program that simply and consistently wins. The Wildcats have played more than 1,000 football games over the course of the school's history and have won roughly 81 percent of them. That's consistent dominance. North Augusta is a quality program and has come a long way, but Valdosta is too big and too strong. PREDICTION: Valdosta wins 35-24
