Enopion auditions


Enopion Theatre Company will hold auditions for Jacob beginning Jan. 9.

All auditions are by appointment only. Parts are available for men and women age 18 and older.

The play is based on the story of Jacob, taken from Genesis Chapters 25-33.

Live music

Tuesday’s Music Live will resume Tuesday with a performance by Duo De Vista at noon at St. Paul’s Church.

The concert is free. A catered lunch will follow for $10. Reservations are required for lunch.

Tree recycling

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will accept Christmas trees through Jan. 8 to be used for fish habitats at Lake Thurmond.

Natural Christmas trees (no artificial ones) can be dropped off at Riverside Middle School, 1095 Furys Ferry Road. Make sure all decorations are removed.

Spring auditions

Holocaust exhibit

The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust will present a travelling exhibit, Witness to the Holocaust: WWII Veteran William Scott Alexander III at Buchenwald, at the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library Jan. 24-Feb. 7.

The exhibit consists of a series of 10 panels highlighting Scott, a World War II veteran and civil rights activist whose father founded the first black-owned daily newspaper in the U.S.

It is based on a permanent exhibit of the same name, which is hosted at the Anne Frank in the World: 1929-1945 exhibit in Sandy Springs. It was curated by the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust in 1997.


Swamp walk

Volunteers from the Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy lead a free, 21/2 mile hike through the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park on the first Saturday of every month. Walks begin at 9:30 a.m. Wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes and bring water to drink. Dogs are not allowed. Groups larger than six should make a reservation.

Two 5Ks

Two 5Ks on Jan. 11 will benefit local charities.

The Red Nose Run 5K and Family Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. at the James Brown Arena.

A Kids’ Fun Run is free with any adult registration and begins at 8:45 a.m. Registration is $25 in advance and $30 on race day, and benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta.

The Superhero Resolution 5K will also begin at 8 a.m. at Savannah Rapids Pavilion. Runners are invited to participate dressed in superhero costumes. There will be prizes for the top three finishers and best costume.
