DAR honor

Ann Sawyer (left), a longtime volunteer for pet adoption at the Augusta Humane Society, was honored Nov. 13 by the Daughters of the American Revolution meeting at Fairview Presbyterian Church in North Augusta.

Susan Robbins, the local DAR regent, presented her with a pin and Certificate of Award for Excellence in Community Service for almost 32 years of appearing on local television shows representing pets for adoption. While a volunteer at the Augusta Humane Society, she began showing pets on television in 1981 and now appears each Wednesday on the noon news Adopt-a-Pet segment with Mary Morrison of WJBF-TV (Channel 6).

In accepting the award, Anne thanked the DAR, and television stations and newspapers that have helped thousands of animals find homes over the years.
