In new play


Kristen Bryant took part in the first Wake Forest University production of Jose Rivera’s award-winning play Marisol.

The play is about a copy editor in apocalyptic New York City after the angels rebel against God and the natural order begins to fall apart.

Safety awards

Miller Jenkins and Felande D. Ross II won the Execellence in Fire Safety Award Citizens Award of Courage for 18 and older.

The awards were presented by Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner Ralph Hudgens Oct. 17.

Military training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Christina M. Quarles graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Amber Quarles of Aiken and sister of Steffany Simpkins of Augusta, and a 2004 graduate of Aiken High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Jonathan Frazier completed U.S. Navy Basic Training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Valerie Frazier of Hephzibah and Jon Frazier of Fort Gordon, and a 2011 graduate of A.R. Johnson Magnet School.

Army Pvt. Michael D. Wood has graduated from Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Michael Henderson of Lincolnton and Michael Wood of Augusta.
