• Navy Seaman Ronald N. Dock completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Althedral Y. Trim and Ronald Simms and a 2011 graduate of Cross Creek High School.

• Army National Guard Pvt. Waymond S. Zanders II has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. He is the son of Michaela Watkins, of Low Meadow Drive, Augusta, and Waymond Zanders I of Byron, Ga.


• The following students graduated from Valdosta State University: Robert Arthur Shanahan, bachelor of arts, criminal justice; Jessyca Raychelle Hayes, bachelor of arts, history; Seretha Mye’isha Sherrod, bachelor of arts, sociology; Amy Leigh Mulherin, bachelor of business administration, marketing; Jessyca Raychelle Hayes, bachelor of fine arts, dance; Shanti Vera Danes, bachelor of fine arts, speech communication; Ashlyn Brooke Horney, bachelor of fine arts, speech communication; Kaitlyn Ruby Fritz, bachelor of science, communication disorders; Kimberly Marie Mears, master of library & information science.

• The following students earned master’s degrees from Mercer University: Samuel Brooks, master of divinity; Ricky Lampkin, master of arts, teaching; Haley O’Byrne, master of education.

• The following students earned bachelor’s degrees from Mercer University: Garrett Durkee, cum laude; Tionna Harris, cum laude; Marcella Murray; Patrick Walters, Caroline Butt, Kristen Dukes, Mark Harris and Matthew McPhail.

• Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga., awarded degrees to 470 students. Among the graduates was Katie H. Justice, of Hephzibah, who earned a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications with highest honors.

Carlston Nicholas Mills, of Augusta, has recevied a degree from the E.J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University.


Savannah River Remediation awarded scholarships to Wesley Coleman of Midland Valley High School and Tariq Cannonier of A.R. Johnson High School at the National Society of Black Engineers – Augusta Alumni Chapter Award Celebration May 19.
