Annemarie Kipar, of Bali, Indonesia, is the Artist of the Month. Kipar, a native of Konigsberg, Germany, embroiders and embellishes Ikat fabrics, European chintz and Tibetan double brocades to make wall hangings. The Healthy Futures Senior Health Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at East Central Regional Hospital, formerly Gracewood State School and Hospital, on Tobacco Road. Information will be provided on healthy eating, diabetes, blood pressure and other topics.

A pharmacist will view medications being taken by patients and inform them if they are taking some that should be not taken together.

Fun events will include plant therapy, a memory table and a walking track.

United Way has been awarded 20 Summer VISTA Associate positions to work from June 1 through Aug. 5 in an intensive level of summer service. Youths ages 18-24 will be recruited to help strengthen summer educational programs and work with Title 1 school students to expand programs geared toward keeping youths occupied during the summer. The agency expects to collaborate with up to 18 host agency sites and serve 550 students with tutoring and mentoring in math and English. It will also support training to include fitness and recreation, character and leadership development, and health and life skills necessary to prevent summer learning loss.
