The Augusta chapter of Top Teens of America inducted 15 new members on Nov. 12 in the Alpha Center at Bethel AME Church.

The following were inducted: Nicholas Ashmore, Sydney Baskett, Delicia Brockington, Micheldon Crawley, William Daniels, Amy Greene, Alexandria Johnson, Tyler Jolly, Kelsey Kent, Weldon Lake, Danielle Reynolds, Lindsey Riggs, Sydney Robinson, Jason Weaver and Desmone’t Wilson.

The Augusta chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction sponsored the ceremony. Top Ladies of Distinction Inc. is a national educational humanitarian organization composed of women interested in the well-being of individuals and the preservation of values significant to wholesome living. The main focus includes mentoring youth through Top Teens of America, enhancing the status of women, enriching the lives of senior citizens, community beautification and community partnerships.

Charles J. Smith Sr., the president of the Augusta branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his service to the community, education, humanity and the NAACP. Smith was honored during the inaugural New Morning Star Baptist Church Inc. Community Service Awards, held Dec. 23 in his native Demopolis, Ala.

The GA-SC Bulls Girls Under 18 soccer team won the James Island Cup Nov. 19-20. The Bulls advanced through group play with a 0-0 draw and 2-0 win with goals from Tori Roberts and Britany Huggins. The Bulls, featuring players from Augusta, North Augusta and Aiken, defeated the CUSC Fire 2-0 in the semifinals with goals from Huggins and Caroline Edmonds. The finals were decided on penalty kicks with Roberts, Huggins, and Edmonds all converting and Whitney Roberts making 2 saves.
