Canal boat tours

Moonlight Music, a 11/2-hour boat tour of the Augusta Canal featuring live Americana, bluegrass, folk music and original canal songs by The Wynns, will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Blues, jazz and Americana music by Jeff Liberty will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7. Tickets cost $25.

One-hour tours exploring the behind-the-lines role the canal played during the Civil War will be at 10 a.m. Saturday and 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $12.50

Weight-loss classes

Secrets to Better Weight Loss and Tips for Easy, Healthy Cooking, will be offered by PHC Weight Loss and Wellness Centers at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday and at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. The free classes are part of PHC's 30th anniversary celebration. Class size is limited.

ASU performance

The Augusta State University Conservatory program will perform Incarnatio Mysteria , a choral work by conservatory faculty member Timothy Michael Powell.

Performances are scheduled for 3:45 and 7:30 p.m. Friday at Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, 615 12th St. Tickets cost $4 to $10.

Marsalis concert

Branford Marsalis, of the legendary Marsalis family musical dynasty and former music director for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, will be in concert at 8 p.m. Monday at the Imperial Theatre, 749 Broad St.

Marsalis will be accompanied on the piano by his longtime collaborator Joey Calderazzo. Augusta's own Jessye Norman will serve as emcee and sing. Proceeds from the concert benefit the Jessye Norman School of the Arts.

DFCS furlough day

The Department of Human Services, Division of Family and Children Services offices will be closed Friday, Oct. 7, for a designated furlough day.

While the offices will be closed, online applications for services still will be available. During closures, employees still will be available to respond to any complaints of child abuse or neglect. People should contact the police if they think a child is in danger.

Trip for veterans
