Officers installed


The following officers have been installed for 2010-11 for American Legion Richmond Post 63:

William Doker , post commander; Randy Kelly , senior vice commander; John Durst , junior vice commander; W.E. Keel , junior vice commander; Donald Duarte , finance officer; William Shirley , judge advocate and chaplain; and Raymond Wehn , service officer.

Gets nuclear grant

Augusta Technical College has received a grant of $121,500 from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the Nuclear Engineering Technology Degree program curriculum.

Earns college degree

Keith DeLeon Murphy , of Augusta, has earned an associate of science degree from Darton College, Albany, Ga.

In wheelchair games

The following area veterans recently competed in the 30th National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Denver:

Jerry Braun and William Braun , Fort Gordon; and Alphonso Evans and Kevin Grubb , Hephzibah.

Academy graduates

The following Richmond County residents recently graduated from the Youth Challenge Academy, Fort Stewart, Ga.:

Alvin Santiago-Melendez, Brian Leverett, David Owens, Ronnicqua Bennett and Tevin Preston , Augusta; Antoine Kelley, Brandon Armstrong, Desmond Wesby , Jeremy Kimble, Kaleem Cobb, Sean Nance and Tacoria Wood , Hephzibah; and Shawn Greene , Blythe.

Given scholarships

Trevor Latimore, Torrecka Vinson, Lakeya Meadows and Denzell Carter have been awarded $500 scholarships by the Augusta Alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Military news

- Navy Seaman Treyscan D. Bradburn , a 2005 graduate of Butler High School and son of Finis A. Bradburn, of Hephzibah, and Tony L. Bradburn, of Augusta, recently completed the Basic Yeoman Course at Naval Technical Training Center in Meridian, Miss.

- Army Pfc. Brandon J. Roberts , a 2006 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and son of Shelby Sellers, of Augusta, has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

- Navy Seaman Recruit Joshua M. Greenway , a 2007 graduate of Curtis Baptist High School and son of Brenda K. and Carl W. Greenway, of Augusta, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
