Jack Kepley hopes that Peaches can live up to her big sister's accomplishment.
Mr. Kepley bred Uli, a bulldog that has received many best-in-show awards in dog shows.
"We have her sister Peaches. We hope that one day she'll be No. 1, too," said the Greensboro, N.C., resident.
Peaches and an unrelated bulldog, Cassie, were among about 700 dogs entered into Saturday's Augusta Kennel Club Dog Show.
The annual dog show attracted people from all over, said Audrey Bye-Weygant, the Augusta Kennel Club's vice president and show chairwoman.
"Most of them are coming from the Southeast, but there are several who are from other places," she said. "It's a great opportunity to see beautiful dogs from around the country."
The club has held trials since it was founded in 1946, she said.
Geri Jacobs, of Savannah, Ga., has been competing in dog shows for 10 years. She entered her 7-month-old English bulldog, Jagers Cheyenne Autumn, also known as "Annie," in this year's show.
"I enjoy it because of the people I get to meet. It's a great hobby, and you get to travel with your dog," she said. "We travel to dog shows about once a month."
Liz Powers, of Greenville, S.C., considers herself a newcomer to dog shows, even though she grew up going to them with her family.
"I'm not a professional, but this is something I do for fun," said Ms. Powers, a veterinarian technician. "As a little girl, we would go to dog shows, and I always looked forward to them."
Dog shows provide opportunities to meet and learn from other dog owners, she said.
"It's been a good experience for Tru as well," she said of her 13-month-old Rottweiler. "He gets to socialize with other dogs, and it helps him to get used to being in a show.
This year's dog show was held at the Riverview Activities Center in North Augusta.
