Best of Augusta


The annual Best of Augusta Bash will be held today at Fort Discovery, 1 Seventh St.

The event will highlight the winners of Augusta Magazine's 2009 Best of Augusta readers' poll.

The event will feature food from area restaurants and music from local bands.

Tickets are $17 at the door. All proceeds benefit Fort Discovery. See

Art of Chocolate

The 14th annual Art of Chocolate will be held Friday at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, 3300 Evans to Locks Road.

The black-tie-optional event will feature live entertainment provided by The Toasters, food catered by Berry's Catering, an open bar, chocolates and other desserts created by area chefs and an art auction benefiting abused, neglected and abandoned children in the area.

Tickets are $50 and will be available at the door or may be charged by phone.

Fall Film Series

The Augusta State University Fall Film Series will continue at 7 p.m. Monday in University Hall, Room 170, at the school, 2500 Walton Way.

The next film will be Afghan Star , not rated.

This documentary is about the popular Afghanistan television show that searches for the most talented singer in the war torn country.

Think Pink Banquet

Kris Carr, the author of Crazy, Sexy Cancer Tips and Crazy, Sexy Cancer Survivor , is the featured speaker at the Think Pink Banquet on Tuesday at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, 3300 Evans to Locks Road.

The banquet is presented by The Augusta Chronicle and University's Breast Health Center. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. A silent auction at 6 p.m. benefits The Lydia Project.

Faith discussion

A Just Faith panel discussion will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the First Baptist Church of Augusta sanctuary at 3500 Walton Way.

The panel will discuss whether church should be a place where Christians are informed and encouraged to get involved in social issues.

A Strike-Out Alzheimer's Bowl-A-Thon will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 17, at Brunswick Lanes, 3067 Washington Road.

Admission and shoes are free. People who donate $25 or more will be entered to win more than 50 door prizes. Teams of five are suggested.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Alzheimer's Association programs and services in the area.

Bowlers must register to participate.
