Best of Augusta


The Best of Augusta Bash 2008 will be held at 6 p.m. today at Fort Discovery, 1 Seventh St.

The event will highlight the winners of the 2008 Best of Augusta readers' poll.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $17 at the door, and include food, entertainment and access to Fort Discovery's exhibits. A cash bar will be available.

Two-face musical

Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical , an Augusta Players production, will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Imperial Theatre, 745 Broad St.

The show is recommended for mature audiences only. Tickets cost $15 to $40.

Swamp Saturday

Swamp Saturday will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park, 1858 Lock and Dam Road.

The free 2 1/2-mile hike takes in the park's wetlands and scenic points.

Family Festival

As part of Children's Week 2008, a Family Festival and Education Fair will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Eighth Street Plaza on Riverwalk Augsuta.

The festival will feature arts and crafts, entertainment and food. Admission is free.

Movie at library

A free screening of the movie Young @ Heart , rated PG, will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Augusta-Richmond County Library, 902 Greene St. Call (706) 821-2600.

Greek Festival

The 2008 Augusta Greek Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at 10th and Greene streets in downtown Augusta.

The festival is held by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and will feature a Greek market and vendors, food, live music and dancing.

It's fair season

The Georgia-Carolina State Fair will take place Wednesday, Oct. 17, through Friday, Oct. 26, at the Augusta Exchange Club Fairgrounds, 202 Hale St.

Advance tickets are now available. Admission is $5. Admission with unlimited rides is $15.

Halloween spooks

A Halloween Spooktacular party will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Fort Discovery, 1 Seventh St.

The event will feature a costume parade, Weird Science demonstrations, activities, door prizes and refreshments.

Admission is $4 for ages 18-54; $3 for active duty military, ages 4-17 and 55 and older; and free for members and children under 4. The first 500 children will receive goodie bags.
