Casino night will benefit museum

The Augusta Museum of History is bringing Las Vegas to Augusta on Feb. 22 with Rolling on the River, a casino night fundraiser.

"It's a unique fundraiser for us. The purpose is to increase the awareness of the museum to a younger audience. We hope that it will be well received by the community and that we can make this a yearly fundraiser," said Rebekah Henry, the marketing and membership manager.

The event will feature games commonly found in casinos, such as blackjack, craps, Texas hold 'em and roulette; an open bar; hors d'oeuvres; and a prize auction at the end of the night.

Tickets are $30 per individual, $50 per couple. The price of the tickets includes starting betting money for the event, Ms. Henry said.

"That way, everyone has the chance to play at least one game. Once they spend the upfront betting money they receive, they can also purchase additional chips on their own," she said. "The winnings from the games will be used during the prize auction at the end of the night to purchase items. There's a lot of fun and unique items up for auction."

Even those who attend but don't want to play the games will enjoy the event, she added.

"It's going to be entertaining to just watch people play the games. We will have all the fun and action of a live casino, so even if you don't want to play the games you'll have a great time mingling and watching others play," she said.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the museum's operations and programs.
