Only two still in running for $10,000 scholarship

Ashley Wethal and Jordan Crawford are one step closer to winning the $10,000 scholarship bond in the Make Kids Count contest.


They both survived the latest elimination drawing for the 4- to 8-year old category held Friday at Blue Magnolia. They have now received at least a $5,000 scholarship bond.

Over the past five years, The Augusta Chronicle and its sponsors have awarded more than $350,000 in scholarship bonds to area children in the Make Kids Count contest.

Sponsors for the drawings are: Champion Windows, Ashley Furniture Home Store, Knology, Platt's Funeral Home, Branum's Sewing and Vacuum Superstore and Partners in Achievement.

The Augusta Chronicle is accepting entries in the 9- to 12-year-old division, open only to children born between March 28, 1995, and Jan. 1, 1999.

Official entry forms and contest rules will appear regularly in The Augusta Chronicle and online at through Dec. 28, or they can be obtained at The Chronicle's main office at 725 Broad St. Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Dec. 28.
