One Stitch at a Time is a project begun by Pat Yates, who works with the Williams Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal AIDS Ministry.
Patterned after the national project called The AIDS Memorial Quilt, the project honors those who are living with AIDS and those who have died from the syndrome.
"This project also helps to bring awareness of AIDS and helps to educate the public about AIDS," Ms. Yates said.
For World AIDS Day, the ministry urged middle and high school students to create posters centered on the theme Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise: Leadership.
Quilts and posters from the local project were on display Saturday as part of the World AIDS Day in the Park event at Lake Olmstead.
Through the display and the project, Ms. Yates said, perhaps others will get involved.
"We want to encourage people to get involved and to create a quilt. Eventually, we want to put all the quilts together and submit it to the national project," she said.
