Sertoma's annual Valentine Dance will have Fantastic Shakers

The Medical College of Georgia Sertoma Club will hold its 12th annual Valentine Dance on Friday at The Boathouse at Augusta Riverfront Marina.

The event will feature beach music by The Fantastic Shakers from North Carolina, said Cheryl Wilson, the chairwoman for the dance.

"They are wonderful," she said. "They were here last year, and they were so good we had them back."

Ms. Wilson said Sertoma - which stands for Service to Mankind - is an organization whose main purpose is to help people with speech and hearing problems The dance, sponsored by the CSRA Shag Club and radio station WKSX-FM (92.7), is one of the club's two annual fundraisers.

"The money that we raise, we vote on who to give it to," she said. "It goes to organizations that help children. We keep lot here at MCG."

The club donates money to MCG's bone marrow drive and has donated to MCG's Department of Occupational Therapy, the Children's Medical Center, Heritage Academy and the Make-a-Wish Foundation, she said.
