Johnny Edwards hails from the metro Atlanta area. He has been a reporter for The Augusta Chronicle since Jan. 2000. He is part of the paper's Special Projects team, and previously covered crime for The Chronicle, as well as for daily papers in Lynchburg, Va.; Cherokee County, Ga.; and Cobb County, Ga.
Along with staff writers Greg Rickabaugh and Chasiti Kirkland, Johnny won an Associated Press award for breaking news in 2000 for his coverage of the Reinaldo Rivera case. He also took part in the staff coverage of the fatal explosion at the BP Amoco plant last year, which took a first place AP award for breaking news in 2001.
Johnny graduated from University of Georgia's journalism school in 1996.
He lives in the Pendleton King area.
