Olympic Impact
With over 200 athletes training in Augusta, the city's coffers are experiencing a significant boost from the games two hours away in Atlanta. But it's only a shadow of what could have been.

Augusta's Olympic Torchbearers
On July 14, Augusta becomes a proud part of the 1996 games. Preview the route more than 50 area torchbearers will take to get the Olympic flame to the Centennial Olympic Games.

Augusta's Olympians
Meet some of the athletes from Augusta who will represent the United States in 1996, as well as those who came before them.


Boxing
The U.S. Olympic Boxing team will spend it's final weeks of preparation for the games here in Augusta. They will joined by Olympic boxers from Israel.


Rowing
Rowers, canoers and kayakers from around the world have been training on the Savannah River in Augusta and on South Carolina's Langley Pond for several years. Now, rowers from four different countries are paddling on area waters.


Table Tennis
Two Augusta residents will be representing the United States in the competitive world of Olympic table tennis. They and their team are training here before the Summer Games. They will be joined by Olympic players from Japan and Romania.


Shooting
At the Pinetucky Skeet and Trap Club in south Richmond County, and at the South Carolina Outdoor Shooting Center in Windsor, S.C., up to 10 different countries may train before the Summer Games


Equestrian
Top world-class equestrians from Britain, Australia, Germany, Denmark, Hungary and Bermuda are training in Aiken, S.C., and Thomson, Ga.

The U.S. women's and Norwegian women's Olympic handball team will get used to the Georgia heat at the Augsuta State University Athletic Complex.
