An Augusta Republican running for Congress cites the Bible in his first campaign commercial while accusing President Obama of “immoral” spending.

Rick W. Allen’s 30-second ad began airing Wednesday in eastern Georgia’s 12th Congressional District.

The commercial features Allen looking into the camera saying: “Obama’s big spending, it burdens our children with debt. The Bible says that’s immoral.”

The ad also mentions Rep. John Barrow, the incumbent Democrat who will face the winner of the GOP primary.

The first Republican out of

The first Republican out of the chute on the Bible bandwagon. Will they never learn.

Would it not have been adequate to simply say that saddling our children with debt is immoral......PERIOD. Did he have to throw the Bible in there and alienate those of us who are conservative voters but who are not religious?

Mr. Allen, I just scratched you off of my list. I vote conservative but will not vote for Bible thumpers or those who inject religion into politics. Conservatives SHOULD be able to win on the issues. They do not need to alienate a significant number of voters by injecting religion.

I do not fear politicians who are religious.....I fear politicians who wear their religion like a badge of moral superiority.

“Obama’s big spending, it

“Obama’s big spending, it burdens our children with debt. The Bible says that’s immoral.”

dichotomy, I understand that you are not a believer and are offended by any mention of Christianity or religious thought, but I fail to see where Mr. Allen is wearing his religion like a badge of moral superiority. He made a simple statement about Obama and the debt he is leaving our children and stated the bible says that is immoral. My thought was, yeah and there are many who aren't Christian who feel the same way. His statement isn't about salvation, heaven, or hell. It was a simple observation. If he had used the word unethical would you have been just as offended or was it because he took the statement from the bible and not a secular book or article.

Corgimom, care to expound on that statement. Who exactly is living in a glass house and who is throwing stones?
