In Bowling Green, Ky., Augusta's Josh Mazzola went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but Isaias Velasquez 's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Hot Rods to a 4-3 win over the GreenJackets on Monday night.
LPGA commissioner is urged to resign
A meeting last week of more than a dozen players has resulted in a letter to the LPGA Tour's board urging that Commissioner Carolyn Bivens resign, according to Golfweek Magazine .
Key players stated in the letter that the LPGA's woes can't be blamed on a poor economy and that the tour should find a new leader to rebuild relationships with longtime sponsors, the magazine reported Monday.
The report cited a player who had received a copy of the letter. Among those at the meeting were Lorena Ochoa , Paula Creamer , Cristie Kerr , Morgan Pressel and Natalie Gulbis , among the most prominent players in the sport.
- Several area golfers qualified to play in the Charles Howell III Junior Championship, which got under way Monday at West Lake Country Club.
Qualifying in the boys division of the American Junior Golf Association event were Evans' Robert Robertson and Dylan Lyons and Augusta's Hamilton Harbin .
Sarah Harrison of Martinez qualified in the girls division.
ACC moves tourney because of rebel flag
Unresolved disputes concerning the Confederate flag have led the Atlantic Coast Conference to move three future baseball tournaments out of South Carolina.
The league said it instead will hold its championship in Durham, N.C., in 2011 and '13 and in Greensboro in 2012.
Commissioner John Swofford says the tournament was awarded to Myrtle Beach, S.C. those years with the understanding that discussions were held with groups that had sensitivities regarding the flag, but that "it has become clear this was not the case."
The NAACP has called on groups to boycott South Carolina for flying the Confederate flag from the state capitol grounds.
Kidd will sign deal to stay with Mavs
Free agent point guard Jason Kidd has agreed to sign a three-year contract for more than $25 million to remain with Dirk Nowitzki and the rest of the Dallas Mavericks. The New York Knicks were among Kidd's suitors.
The deal -- which can't be signed until Wednesday -- was first reported by ESPN.com.

Man denies killing high school coach
The man accused of killing an Iowa high school football coach has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
Coach Ed Thomas was fatally shot June 24 in a weight room in front of about 20 students at Aplington-Parkersburg High School in northeast Iowa.
Former player Mark Becker , 24, pleaded not guilty in a written plea Thursday. Online court records show he demanded a speedy trial, which means he will have to stand trial within 90 days.
F1 head won't quit over Hitler remarks
Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone dismissed calls for his resignation Monday in the wake of his praise for Adolf Hitler .
In an interview Saturday in The Times of London, Ecclestone said democracy wasn't effective and singled out Hitler as a strong leader who "got things done." He dismissed calls from the World Jewish Congress that he resign, saying those calling for him to leave did not have such authority.
