Three-goal rush the key for Lynx in win

In Elmira, N.Y., the Augusta Lynx scored three third-period goals to earn a 5-3 victory over the Elmira Jackals.

After Augusta got tallies in the second period from Patrick Bordeleau and Justin Keller , Keller struck again a minute into the third to tie the game.

Kevin Quick put Augusta ahead 7:47 into the third, and Dallas Steward put the game on ice a little less than 5 minutes later.

Disc Golf

Augusta State wins state championship

In Swainsboro, Ga., Augusta State took the title in the Collegiate Disc Golf State Championship.

Andrew Cromer , Reid Hair , Aaron Umansky and Patrick May won by eight, finishing the two-round event at 14-under. Host East Georgia, Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern also competed.

Individually, Cromer was second and May third. East Georgia's Ryan MacDonald was medalist.


Thurmond Lake FLW crown goes to Fritts

In Appling, Ga., David Fritts , of Lexington, N.C., caught a five-bass limit of 6 pounds, 12 ounces, to win $125,000 in the Walmart FLW Series BP Eastern Division season finale on Thurmond Lake.

Fritts had a four-day haul of 20 bass totaling 59 pounds, 10 ounces. Thanh Lee , of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., was runner-up, with 20 bass weighing 49 pounds, 5 ounces.


Final match set for event at Raes Creek

Today's 1 p.m. championship singles match in the Comcast Women's USTA Tennis Challenger at the Club at Raes Creek will pit No. 3 seed Tetiana Luzhanska vs. eighth-seeded Sandy Gumulya .

Luzhanska won by walkover Saturday. Her opponent, Christina McHale , upset No. 2 seed Lauren Albanese 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals earlier in the day.

After No. 7 seed Audra Cohen upset top seed Jorgelina Cravero in three sets, Cohen fell to Gumulya 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals.

In the doubles draw, Yayuk Basuki and Romana Tedjakusuma await their finals opponents. The second semifinal will be held at 10 this morning.

- The WTA Tour announced that Jelena Jankovic has secured the year-end No. 1 ranking.

- In Basel, Switzerland, top-seeded Roger Federer beat Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 6-2 to reach the final of the Swiss Indoors.

Federer will seek a third Swiss Indoors title in a row today against David Nalbandian , who won 6-4, 6-4 over Juan Martin del Potro .

- In St. Petersburg, Russia, reigning champion Andy Murray beat Fernando Verdasco 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the St. Petersburg Open final.

The top seed will play qualifier Andrey Golubev , who reached his first career ATP final by beating Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-0.

- In Lyon, France, Robin Soderling rallied past No. 4 seed Gilles Simon 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 at the Lyon Grand Prix to reach his fourth indoor final of the year.

In today's final, he'll face Julien Benneteau , who upset No. 3 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (4), 7-5.

- In Linz, Austria, top-seeded Ana Ivanovic reached her first final since winning the French Open in June, beating No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in the Generali Ladies.

Ivanovic will play No. 2 seed Vera Zvonareva , who routed sixth-seeded Marion Bartoli 6-0, 6-1.

Cougars get a win against host Pacers

In Aiken, USC Aiken fell 5-0 to Columbus State on Saturday in a Peach Belt Conference match.

The Pacers (3-12-2, 1-5-1) were outshot 16-2 by the Cougars (15-3-0, 6-0-0).


Upcoming Klitschko fight is canceled

Wladimir Klitschko 's heavyweight title defense against Alexander Povetkin , scheduled for December, was canceled after Povetkin tore a ligament in his left foot during a training run.
