Pacers set for play in NCAA Regionals

For the 17th consecutive year, USC Aiken will tee it up in the NCAA Division II Regionals. The fourth-ranked Pacers begin play today in the 54-hole Southeast Regional in Mooresville, N.C.

USC Aiken, the Peach Belt Conference Tournament champion, is one of eight teams in the regional and one of 16 in the Southeast/Atlantic Super Regional. The two regional winners, as well as the three super regional non-winners with the best scores, qualify for the NCAA Championship, May 14-17.

All-Conference players Jeff Goff and Roberto Diaz head up the five-member lineup, which includes J.P. Solis, Kevin Grady and Ashley Smith.


Bears RB Benson in trouble with law

In Austin, Texas, Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson was charged with failing a sobriety test while operating a 30-foot boat, then resisting arrest before being hit with pepper spray and dragged ashore by officers.

Benson faces charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest after the incident Saturday night on Lake Travis, Travis County Sheriff's Department spokesman Roger Wade said. Benson was released from jail early Sunday on a $14,500 bond. A call to Benson's agent was not immediately returned.


Avery released after 5-day hospital stay

Rangers forward Sean Avery was released from the hospital Sunday morning, five days after suffering a season-ending lacerated spleen in a playoff game. Avery had been in intensive care at St. Vincent's Medical Center from the time he was admitted Tuesday night, shortly after New York's Game 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins .


Nadal wins fourth in a row in Barcelona

In Barcelona, Spain, Rafael Nadal won his fourth consecutive Barcelona Open title with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory over second-seeded David Ferrer in the final.

Nadal is 20-1 in clay-court finals .

l In Munich, Germany, Fernando Gonzalez remained perfect on clay this year and captured his 10th career title at the BMW Open by beating Simone Bolelli 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 6-3. l In Fez, Morocco, Gisela Dulko won her first title this season and the third of her career by beating top-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) at the Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem.

l In Prague, Czech Republic, top-seeded Vera Zvonareva won her sixth career WTA title by beating third-seeded Victoria Azarenka 7-6 (2), 6-2 in the Prague Open final.
