Our government is morbidly obese - so stop feeding the beast

  • Follow Opinion columns

We have all heard news stories about people so morbidly obese that they could not exit their houses or apartments. I recall one story of a person who had to be lifted with a crane after a wall was removed.

These people are addicted to eating and, in some cases, ate incessantly even though they knew that they were jeopardizing their health and, eventually, their lives. They grew so large that they were barely able to move, and rendered themselves largely useless except as a food-disposal unit.

This reminds me of our federal government, which was once agile and responsive, but now is so large and cumbersome that it has difficulty with the simplest of tasks. To sustain this ever-growing monster, it must be fed with ever-larger piles of our tax dollars.

In 2010, statistics from the Internal Revenue Service show that individuals earning $69,000 or more, which encompasses much of the middle class and everyone in upper classes, had a combined gross adjusted income of $5.1 trillion. That is an enormous sum of money, and it gives us some idea of the power of the economic engine that this nation possesses. The problem is that the federal budget was $3.5 trillion, which is almost two-thirds that amount.

WE NOW HAVE a federal debt of $17 trillion, which continues to grow. The current administration proudly points out that it is growing slower now than before. Such a claim makes it clear that they do not appreciate the seriousness of our spending problem. If a balloon is so full of air that is about to burst, it would be far better to begin deflating the balloon than to put just a little more air into it.

It is urgent that we begin to reduce the federal debt rather than just slow its increase. To put all of this into perspective, consider the fact that we would have to tax all of those individuals earning more than $69,000 a year at a rate of 64 percent just to balance the federal budget for one year.

This would do nothing to reduce the federal debt. I’m only referring to federal income taxes, of course, but if you add state and local budgets, the proportion needed to cover the expenditures could easily approach 80 percent to 90 percent of income. When you look at these numbers, you don’t have to be a financial genius to recognize that this is an unsustainable pattern and must be addressed with logic and common sense rather than ideology.

There are some ideologues who are quite happy with this pattern of taxing and spending because it furthers their goal of income redistribution. Without question, it is a successful tactic to accomplish such a social change. It does not, however, take into account the fact that once the redistribution has occurred, the economic engine has been so damaged that the utopian environment that was sought will be more distant than ever.

To halt the progressive rise of our national debt, we need to do one or more of the following:

• Take everything from the middle and upper classes to feed the governmental beast and reduce debt, at least until there is nothing left to take.

• Reduce the size of government through attrition and trimming of fat in government programs across the board.

• Grow the economy by simplifying the tax code and making it fair; reduce corporate tax rates to reverse the flow of economic activity out of our nation; engage in only obviously necessary regulatory activities; enact wise energy policies; and put the appropriate emphasis on relevant education.

CLEARLY, THE FIRST option is antithetical to our nation’s founding principles. Our Founders expected the role of the central government to be quite limited and confined principally to protecting the rights of its citizens to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The fact that four of the five wealthiest counties in the United States surround Washington, D.C., while other parts of the nation are suffering, should be a wake-up call to anyone who has slumbered through the massive expansion of our government. For these reasons, the second option is extremely good, but it must be realized that we cannot cut our way to prosperity. Therefore, the third option is by far the best, and I think it could quickly reverse the national direction that most people believe is wrong.

In recent weeks, we have seen more of the national media beginning to question some of the actions of those in control of our government. I hope this trend continues, because the survival of our nation depends on a fair and objective media, who are able to expose the facts upon which the people make decisions.

This is the problem;

The left NEEDS confusion, period!! They need people to look at an elephant and think it's a giraffe. Why? So people won't recognize their actual efforts and the consequences of their actions.

They need people to think of the founding fathers as terrorists; who murdered people and stole this land. They need people to think of Obama and THEIR leaders, as the saviors; who are going to right the wrongs of the terrorists Washington, Adams, Franklin, Jefferson, etc.

They need people to look at 17 trillion in debt as a GOOD thing; because we are creating this debt to "help the less fortunate".

The need people to look at the murder of innocent, unborn children as a wonderful thing; for women's rights!!

They need people to believe that removing God from society; is the right thing to do, so we don't offend anyone!!

Basically, to make this shorter; they need you to take every basic natural instinct you possess and throw it in the garbage!! They need you to develop as THEY have!! A "deeper" or more "intelligent" thinking. They do NOT want you looking at an orange and thinking it's an orange!! You must analyze that piece of fruit for hours, days or weeks; to determine if it really is an orange. They HAVE to make you believe it's an apple or their plan fails!!

The biggest tool they use for this is CONFUSION!!! Confusing and blurring the lines of right and wrong; because to them, there is no clear right and wrong!! They don't believe in that mess and in order to be successful, they must get you to stop believing in it. If the people start believing what they SEE, rather than what the left tells them is true; they would be in BIG trouble.

So basically, you can't confuse people with logic, common sense and truth; so the left has no use of any of them!!

Here's how to fix the problem.

To balance the budget and create the environment for an economic boom:

1. Freeze spending at current levels plus inflation rate.

2. Stop baseline budgeting and go to zero base budgeting.

3. Implement the Fair Tax which is a consumption tax. This would be done in conjunction with a constitution amendment eliminating the federal income tax. Also, eliminate the IRS as it now exists.

4. Repeal the 17th Amendment and return the election of US Senators back to the state legislatures.

5. Institute tort reform by going to loser pays.

6. Eliminate cabinet agencies such as Education, Energy, and Commerce for starters as well as agencies such as EPA and OSHA.

Those are the first six things along with following the 10th Amendment to do to begin to return the USA to the country envisioned by the Founding Fathers.

Top Generals Reveal Obama’s Secret High Level Military Purge

(Info Wars) – In Obama’s America, the military must forsake their constitutional oath in favor of blind allegiance to their new commander. And whether it’s top nuke commanders being removed for failing to play ball with the global elite, or just silencing potential whistleblowers, top military generals are now speaking out about the ‘mass purge’ within the United States military.

obama-army-terminations

Top Army generals reveal Obama’s crusade against high level military generals who will not play ball.

One such general, a recipient of the Medal of Honor, has now gone on record in speaking with news organization WND about the mass culling of high level military officers on behalf of the Obama administration. Retired Army Maj. Gen. Patrick Brady says that the attack on high level military personnel is so great that it has now obliterated the morale of troops at large, but is more importantly centered in terminating any high level individual that will not go along with the plan.

“There is no doubt he (Obama) is intent on emasculating the military and will fire anyone who disagrees with him,” the retired general told WND.

General Brady’s admission comes just after two of the top nuclear commanders in the United States were terminated and suspended amid the high level military intelligence we released surrounding the secret transfer of nuclear weapons from a Texas Airforce base to South Carolina. And while the terminations were originally reported on by the Associated Press, who has been covering the issue in depth and even hinting towards our coverage of the missing nuke within their reports, it was revealed by the agency that the terminations and suspensions were actually found out through leaked emails.

In other words, the mass purge of military officials was never truly intended to meet the public eye. But even in the face of government secrecy surrounding the issue, numerous news organizations and media figures have now come out and highlighted the purge of top nuke commanders and others. From Michael Savage launching an investigation into the missing nuke issue and calling for answers, to WND questioning officials over the military intelligence.

Overall, the new media has forced this issue into the spotlight, reaching millions with the powerful information that has been confirmed time and time again by scenarios like Senator Lindsey Graham’s same day speech regarding a nuclear strike on the exact destination of the nuclear warheads. Meanwhile, the establishment has been busy in attempting to eliminate high level military officers who will not blindly follow commander Obama on his every unconstitutional demand.

CG, I've been reading some articles along the same lines.

It appears that Obama has not liked the way the military has been historically white, male, Christian, and conservative. He has decided to do everything he can to make it into his image and Hagel is just one of the people who will do his bidding. If one remembers early on Obama talked about a national paramilitary organization which would be as well funded as the military. Not being able to do that he has made every effort to change it into an liberal organization that will give its loyalty to the president and not the Constitution.

There is such a difference in the Army today than it was when I was there from 1963 through 1990. In many ways it has become an organization to reflect the left wing society mores than those embedded in the Constitution.

An example is I read in the AC that two male West Point graduates who are no longer in the military got married at the West Point Chapel. Our society's sloughing toward degeneracy much more rapidly that Judge Bork envisioned in his book. Obama has done damage to the military that will never be undone...at least not in my life time.

Well we now know with

Well we now know with impunity that Obama is a liar. He has no credibility and can't be trusted. I now think all the scandals are likely true and Obama may have stolen or at least hedged the odds in his favor this last presidential election lying about Benghazi, and using the IRS to hedge out competition. Think about it when all indicators were negative for an incumbent president with high gas prices, bad economy, etc. he wins-made no sense. With the 90% of the media as his lapdog it was just pathetic. It appears our president has no honesty and is likely a narcissist and pseudo-intelluctual who knows nada. He has sealed most of his records, relinquished his law degree for unknown reasons (Bill Clinton had to surrender his law license in Arkansas as a part of Lewinsky deal, but now he can reapply-the first time a president stripped of his law license), from his quick reaction to race related issues (unlike anything else where he moves at a snails pace)where he is quick to interject his bias. Frightening. He has admitted his issues with race.

Teaparty it is one thing to

Teaparty it is one thing to have differences in political views and ideology but if you are a liar you disqualify yourself from it all by losing all credibility. Look at Colin Powell he is still furious he appeared a liar over WMD in Iraq because it destroyed his credibility. I don't think he will ever get over it-he's ticked.
