Obama is our truly presidential president

  • Follow Opinion columns

With all the debates and the cable news analyses of the Republican candidates, many folks don’t realize that there is a Democrat running in a primary for president. His name is Barack Obama.

President Obama has proved himself as a hard-working, successful chief executive while maintaining his dignity. SUSAN WALSH/ASSOCIATED PRESS

President Obama has proved himself as a hard-working, successful chief executive while maintaining his dignity.

The continued attacks on Obama to make Republican candidates attractive to right-wing voters gives many Americans the shivers. Instead of plans for the unemployed, we hear about the president’s religiosity; instead of plans to prevent outsourcing, we hear about the evils of contraception; instead of foreign policy, we hear about invasive sonograms and abortion.

On the other hand, we have a president who has maintained his presidential dignity in the face of lies and distortion, who has aided this country not by negativity but by diligence and hard work that demand he be returned to office.

DESPITE ALL THE Republican unsubstantiated rhetoric, 3 million new jobs have been created, and the unemployment levels are steadily dropping. This is not because the unemployed are dropping out of the work place, but because, as one example, the automotive industry, which was rescued by Obama’s bailout, saved 1.5 million jobs.

Right here in Richmond County, his stimulus package provided the school system with more teachers and smaller student classroom sizes; funds for road repair; and vital funding for renovation of homes for middle-class and working-class families.

While the Tea Party tries to diminish women’s rights, Obama and the Democrats in Congress passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which provides women with equal pay when they perform the same jobs as men. In terms of pay, Obama fought for and won the payroll tax reduction for millions of workers, including extending unemployment insurance and appropriate Medicare compensation of physicians.

A HISTORIC FIRST for this president was the legislative fight for and passage of Affordable Health Care for Americans Act, unlike previous presidents who had attempted but failed to provide affordable health care for the average person. When the law becomes effective, all Americans will have the right to health care that most Western countries provide right now. What a boon to the economy of this nation – reducing the cost of providing for the sick and providing free examinations, preventing illness before it starts.

The president also has been successful in another area where predecessors have failed. The repealing of “don’t ask, don’t tell” in the armed services allows all citizens, no matter their gender preference, to proudly serve the country while filling critical military needs.

President Obama has made this country safer from terrorists than ever before. With great courage and intelligence, he ordered the slaying of the No. 1 terrorist, Osama bin Laden. This terrorist, in one horrendous act, killed thousands in the destruction of the Twin Towers on 9-11. The fact that President Obama wasted no opportunity to have this act carried out by Navy SEALs speaks loudly of his astuteness and determination.

TRUE TO HIS promise, our armed forces are out of the war in Iraq that was initiated by the previous president and was ill-thought-out with no endgame. This is no small accomplishment for which our country should be grateful.

The president’s appointment of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state was a brilliant move, as she has impressed the world with her nonstop diplomacy and peace overtures without boots on the ground. Libya and the resolution of its “Arab Spring” is a good example.

As stated before, President Obama has more than proved himself as he moves our country forward by growing the economy, aiding the working class, keeping our country safe and showing what family values really mean with Michelle, Sasha and Malia by his side. He more than deserves our vote!

(The writer is chairman of the Richmond County Democratic Party, and president of the Georgia Association Democratic County Chairs.)

"Obama has more than proved

"Obama has more than proved himself "

Yes, he has proved himself to be the socialist income redistributor he said he would be. I think of him every time I gas up, pay my health insurance, and get told I have to pay more for something so somebody else can get it for free. I think of him every time I hear Chevy Volt and Solar Panel. It makes me remember the bottomless pit he keeps throwing my money down. I remember him when I buy groceries and the bill is horrendous because our money is no longer worth anything due to our doubled deficit and the FED printing money just to try to pay the interest. Yes, Obama has proved himself to be just the kind of socialist, liberal, anti-business, anti-energy, tax the rich class warfare president the conservatives told us he would be only much worse. If you like your legislation done at midnight in a dark room with the doors closed and passed and signed without reading, then Obama and the Democrats are just the team you deserve. Good try Lowell. I'll vote for a three legged dog before I'd vote for Obama. I'm not crazy about any of the Republicans candidates and I like all of them better than Obama.

Osama Ben Laden got shot in

Osama Ben Laden got shot in the head and the master mind of the whole operation still sits in Gitmo (enjoying the new soccer field Obumbler built) awaiting his trail! Bush was stopped by the liberals from holding his trial and Obama has done NOTHING!!!! President Obama has tired one terrorist in three years. The terrorist that has been tried was the master mined of the bombing of the US Embassies in Africa that resulted in the death of over 600 people. Holder’s justice Department managed to get him convicted of conspiracy. If this wasn’t such a miscarriage of justice it would be funny. Meanwhile Holder has gone after Gibson Guitars, the state of Arizona and managed to smuggle over two thousand weapons into Mexico. What happened to Obumbler's promise to hold public trials of the terrorists in New York City?

Then we get to Obama

Then we get to Obama "winterization program" another $5 billion dollar boondoggle that Greenbuam drags out from the ashes of this corrupt administration. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/04/14/obamas-5-billion-weatherizing... Now it is interesting that I can find no news reports in the alphabet soup journo-lists can find two reports on this from the only news service that seems fair and balanced. Even some of the home improvement sites picked up on this waste but not the journo-lists? http://www.homeconstructionimprovement.com/obamas-winterization-program-...

Could the failure of the volt

Could the failure of the volt been caused by hussein's attempt at being a car salesman? Not that a president of the U.S. SHOULD be trying to sell cars! His investments(of tax dollars) in solar energy failed which shows his lack of business sense, his apologies to the muslims for killing U.S. servicemen shows his lack of loyalty to his troops, and increasing the national debt shows his disrespect for our hard work to pay our taxes. What else does he have to do to get ousted from office?

Mr. Greenbaum has surely never "met" a more dedicated Marxist than Obama. Let's face it, Obama is neither ignorant nor inept - he dilligently pursues his trifecta: destroy Christianity, the culture and the economy. Other important triangles come to mind: destroy the Constitution, the Presidency and the rule of law. destroy respect for women, traditional marriage and traditional family.

' he dilligently pursues', I

' he dilligently pursues', I find it amazing how political passions corrupt the reasoned senses. All I can attribute these contrary statements to is 'projection', projecting one's perception of reality, however unsubstantiated to those they find to be in disagreement with. The 'your fault' because my world is falling apart.

I still believe the following

I still believe the following letter sums it up really well. The following letter is from the Czech Republic newspaper Prager Zeitung on April 28, 2010 that zeros in on the really serious problem in this country. ‘The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
“The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.”
The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him president.’

Faithson, Why is projection

Faithson, Why is projection when Obama's own Secratery of the Treasury admits there is no plan to balance the budget? Why is it projection when Obama says that We can''t drill our way out of $5.00 a gallon gas" all the while cuting oil exploration permits by 70%? Faithson, why didn't Obama care when oil producer Hamm told him about the abundance of oil in the Bakken Field, is that projection?
