Letter: Where’s the beef?

We were told by both the Republicans in Congress and the White House to expect a Republican memorandum that would destroy the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigations of the president. The investigation relates to relationships of Trump’s team with Russia and the Russians’ interference in our elections.

Republicans waved the memo at us and told us the country would see that the FBI was filled with Trump haters. The president finally released it and the best comment I heard was “Where’s the beef?”

The fact is, there is no beef. In addition, the memo released by Republicans violated the law because it released data given to the FISA court, one of our most secretive and protected institutions.

The memo said the FBI used information obtained by Democrats to provide the FISA court with evidence to pursue Carter Page, a member of the Trump transition team who was conceivably a Russian spy. The fact that the information was not identified to the court as being from the Democratic Party, showed, according to the memo, that the FBI was poisoned against the president and cleared him from investigation by Mueller.

This is a stretch that even a giraffe can’t make. In fact, Carter Page was under investigation as agreed to by the FISA court long before the Democratic Party information was obtained.

The question is, why are Republicans and Trump willing to break the law in this back-door way to get at Mueller’s investigation? Why is the president now attacking the FBI in very personal terms, which has never before happened in the history of this country?

One can only reason that some of the Trump team were involved with the Russians. Two have already been indicted and may be “singing” about others. Trump seems to be twisting in the wind and his rope may soon break.
