Thanks, Augusta University!

Augusta University’s Fall Commencement held on Dec. 15 was extremely impressive and made me proud to be an Augustan and U.S. Army Veteran.

Pride in our great university has indeed returned.

The presenting of the colors by the AU ROTC Color Guard and the magnificent singing of The National Anthem by Dr. Melissa Givens was a very special moment. Not a single person of the more than 5,000 in attendance was sitting in protest of anything at this joyous occasion.

As a military veteran it warmed my heart. This was in sharp contrast to the unpatriotic display of some 2017 graduates at the University of Notre Dame, who walked out when the vice president of the United States took the podium. As a lifelong Catholic, that protest totally embarrassed me and put the formerly respected UND on my naughty list.

Thank you, Dr. Brooks Keel, Regent Jim Hull, all the Georgia Regents and all leaders in Jaguar Nation for giving us the great Christmas gift of our now highly esteemed “Augusta University.”
