Letter: Parade huge success

My wife and I have several Christmas traditions that we enjoy this time of year, and one is attending the Gracewood State School and Hospital (GSSH) parade.

This year was no exception. The parade is possible because of GSSH staff making arrangements with area participants. The Richmond County Board of Education allowed the Butler High School Band and Marine ROTC unit, Cross Creek High School band, and Hephzibah High School band to march. The folks at Fort Gordon sent their drill team from the Youth Challenge Academy to strut their stuff.

Gracewood Elementary School students and faculty provided an excited audience of several hundred youngsters. The local community was also visibly represented.

The entry from the fire department, motorcycle club, antique cars and trucks, cartoon characters, and a host of floats made the 2017 parade a true success enjoyed immensely by the clients of GSSH.
