Wow! Am I proud of Augusta, Mayor Hardie Davis, Sheriff Richard Roundtree and his troopers, and the citizens of this city. I would like to borrow Atlanta’s old motto: “A City Too Busy To Hate!”
Our people behaved like decent citizens airing their opinions in a civilized and respectful manner – the American way.
I, personally, am against removing monuments, plaques and other symbols of our history.
We are not the Taliban or ISIS, who have been smashing statues and trashing ancient temples and mosques. We are not Nazis burning books and beating up people who do not look like us or believe what we believe.
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – Santayana
These monuments are part of our past. Learn from them, to ensure we do not repeat the evils, and move on.
Oh, I forgot to mention Marion Williams! First time I think I ever agreed with him on his take regarding monuments! Go, Marion! And go, Augusta! We have a great future ahead.
