Israel is of strategic interest to the United States as the only democracy in the Middle East, surrounded by countries seeking its annihilation.
America has always supported Israel for that reason.
Winston McCuen states in his letter of April 24 (“An addiction to power”) that “Candidate Trump was for America First, but President Trump is for Israel First.”
President Trump is simply following the lead of every U.S. president since Harry Truman. The president is concerned, as he should be, about Russia’s support of Syria’s President Assad. While Russia bombs Syrian civilians, Assad gasses Syrian children.
It is North Korea that poses a nuclear threat, not China. The president has enlisted China’s aid in preventing that development. Would you prefer the United States step back and allow North Korea to develop those weapons, aimed at the United States? Neither Russia’s role in Syria, nor the nuclear threat from North Korea, have anything to do with Israel.
If the United States retreats into the isolationism you seek, we will be a target for those whose fingers tremble with excitement to one day push the nuclear button.
