The proposed employee pay increase by the Richmond County school superintendent is why Upton Sinclair wrote, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!” Obviously, Dr. Angela Pringle does not understand the principle behind merit pay. Or perhaps she does understand and is campaigning to renew her contract.
It is poor leadership to propose a 4 percent pay increase while there are a plethora of failing schools, unresolved behavior and cleanliness issues. On top of that, it is contrary to common sense to reward the same employees who are responsible for leading the schools off the cliff into the abyss of inferiority. However, at the Richmond County Board of Education, it is business as usual.
