Israel part of 'new Zion'

  • Follow Letters

Present-day Zionism and sharia law, to a degree, are two sides of the same coin.

Start with ISIS, now saying that in the land under its control in Iraq, one must be Muslim or be expelled or killed. This is totally unacceptable. Yet, does that differ in kind from the idea that the Jews have a God-given right to own their land in “Israel”? I will call that the new Zionism.

Zion, once simply the idea of a home for Jews in Palestine, was a popular idea in the years between World Wars I and II. When the second one ended, there were many displaced Jews with no place to live. The idea of Zion again arose, meaning at the time to settle some of them in Palestine. However, that area was in no sense vacant, when President Truman assumed he had the right to ship thousands of displaced Jews there. Within a year of their arrival, the Jews decided that they wanted Israel as a Jewish state, not just a state for Jews – a huge difference – and to achieve that, started a war to expel many Muslims, killing many thousands and deporting thousands, while taking half their land for itself.

That I call the new Zion.

I think of the Mideast problem now to be intolerant Jews vs. intolerant Muslims such as ISIS. Aren’t the extremists of both sides contemptible? And murderous? Both equally guilty of claiming a God-given right to land?

Separate states, one for Jews and one for Muslims living alongside each other, is no longer possible. A state needs clear boundaries – impossible with all the settlements in the West Bank, along with Gaza totally apart.

The United States should back and support the government of Israel while urging it to propose to the Palestinians that the land between the sea and the states of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt: Call it Israel if you wish, but insist it be secular – as it was before 1946, without religious preference. It could be a democracy much like that in the United States. That finally would end the serious problems of Israeli mistreatment in Gaza and in the occupied West Bank. It also would allow unfettered access of Christians, Jews and Muslims to their holy city of Jerusalem.

of Jews, muslims, humans, and history all at once
typical liberal...

This maybe the most ignorant, misguided....

This maybe the most ignorant, misguided, uninformed, bigoted letter I've read in the ACES. It is totally devoid of historical accuracy and knowledge of the current situation of Arabs living in Israel.

Does the letter writer know that Arabs living in Israel enjoy all the rights of full Israeli citizenship to include to worship as Muslims openly. Can Jews do that in Arab lands? Can Christians do that in Arab lands?

Does the letter writer know that Arabs have been elected to and serve in the Israeli government?

Does the letter writer know that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East?

Does the letter writer know the Jews live in what is now Israel for thousands of years long before Islam existed?

Does the letter writer know there is actually no such nationality as Palestinian?

Has the letter writer thought that if the other Arab countries really cared about the "Palestinians" that they would take them in and also help them settle and thrive in the areas Israel has ceded to them rather than them living in "camps"?

Does the letter writer know that the people in Gaza don't really want to be self-substaining and in the 21st century as evident by them destroying over 3000 great houses and water systems left behind for them in Gaza when Israel turned it over to them?

Does the letter writer think they really want peace when they "elected" Hamas as their government---a off shoot of the Muslim Brotherhood who vows the destruction of all Jews and Israel?

I seriously doubt it.

"Does the letter writer know the Jews live in what is now Israel for thousands of years long before Islam existed?"

Exactly!! With the left, they always want to pick and choose WHICH history they use and how far to go back!! In this situation, Mr. Reilly is ignoring this point that you made, because it wouldn't further his ridiculous non-sense!! This is nothing more than a hate-Israel rant; but at the same time, trying to give the perception of being "fair".

Why do I say that? Because what Mr. Reilly has said about Jews and Israel are LIES!! What he's said about Islam is true!! Sorry, but that's not "fair" or impartial!!

Mr. Reilly is just another one of those who despises the Jews and doesn't feel they deserve a Country of their own!! Take a look at a map of the middle east!! Look at the location and SIZE of Israel and then look at all the Islamic Countries around them; then tell me Israel hasn't been fair!! Israel has a small slither of land, compared to all the massive Countries around them!!

Mr. Reilly, you need to get right sir!! You're on the WRONG side!!

Dee and ymn took the words

Dee and ymn took the words right off my keyboard. This man has written many idiotic letters, but this one does touch a nerve.

He obviously doesn't know that Israel has been friendly to whomever peacefully and honorably enters its borders. And yet, Jews cannot enter any muslim-only country without fear of death.

How can some people look at

How can some people look at the same set of facts and come to the conclusions that Victor has come to. This is the question.

Somehow people like Victor

Somehow people like Victor can equate beheadings and mass executions to self-defense and legitimate security operations. I'm just astounded someone could make such a comparison.

It seems to me that the only thing the Jews are intolerant of are rockets, mortar rounds, kidnappings, and murders.

What the?

Some things render one speechless. What is truly frightening is that at least one (alleged) "American" who does not live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue THINKS in such a manner, and, he walks among us, votes...What a sad state of affairs.

The AC takes some heat for

The AC takes some heat for the letters it publishes, even though they probably are fully aware that the letters contain erroneous info and sometimes downright falsehoods.

In their defense, it's not up to them to censor these idiotic ravings. And look at this way, we are aware of what our liberty, freedoms and the American way of life are up against when we are slapped up side the head with this nonsense. We're not going down the rosy road with the idea that all is well and we don't have to worry or fight any "enemies".

I must be getting old faster than I thought.

I can remember when antisemitism was looked upon as a bad thing. It was never flaunted publicly.

You and me both getting old.
Nowadays, if there is any criticism toward any religion other than Islam/Muslim, it's perfectly acceptable to a certain group of people.
