No moral equivalence

  • Follow Letters

Ron Hickerson’s letter to the editor “How can Israel justify?” (Aug. 4) makes me wonder how he would feel if he lived day and night under the threat of total destruction.

Has Mr. Hickerson already forgotten about the suicide bombers who greeted Israel after it returned Gaza to the Palestinian Authority?

Does he forget the hundreds of intact greenhouses that were given as gifts to help feed and employ Gazans?

With almost $500 million in aid just from America, and no telling how much from the rest of the world, it makes me wonder: Where has all the money gone? Tunnels, rockets or pockets?

Civilian casualties always are terrible no matter what the numbers. Is there less justification when U.S. drones strike the Taliban and innocents are killed? When America dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, and the ratio of civilians to combatants killed was more than 50 to 1, was that justified?

Israel’s technical ability intercepted hundreds of rockets before they hit urban areas. Would Mr. Hickerson be less critical if many more Israelis had been killed?

Israel protects its citizens; it doesn’t hide its military among the civilian population. When Hamas figures out it will never defeat Israel and decides to recognize its existence, I think Palestinians will find a willing partner to help them build a viable society. There is no moral equivalence!

Well said sir!

Worth repeating again:

"If [insert Muslim group/country] stops fighting, there would be peace. If Israel stops fighting, there would be no Israel."

Yes, the United States money

Yes, the United States money probably went to build more tunnels!! They've discovered over 40 tunnels so long, elaborate and sophisticated; they had to have cost tens of millions of dollars!! So, Hamas is so worried about unemployment in Gaza and trade, but they still spend millions of dollars for no other purpose than to wage war against the Jews!! It's time to exterminate this disease to society!!

Radical Islam is a cancer to a peaceful society, and the only cure is thousands of 500 pound bombs!!

I wonder if those who are so

I wonder if those who are so vocally outraged over the civilian casualties from Israeli attacks are equally vocal over the civilian casualties from the President's drone attacks?

Well said. Well said....

Well said. Well said.

Those who bring up moral equivalency either don't understand what it means to fight for one's survival or have never been in a true life and death situation where it is either your life or someone's who is trying to kill you.

Let's face it. None of the Arab countries want the Palestinians. If they did they would have given them control over that land prior to the establishment of Israel. By the way, it is by understanding that the Palestinians had a chance for its own land when the area was divided and they refused to accept it.

WRITER
Unpublished

The writer needs to understand that opposition to Israel's actions against Hamas is centered on a festering hatred for Jews period. You'll never convince those haters that Israel has a right to protect it's citizens from daily rocket attacks aimed to kill anyone in it's path. The radical Muslims will never stop in their attempts to erase Israel from history. Hamas is morally bankrupt and has used American aid to buy rockets and build tunnels instead of improving the lives of it's citizens. The only solution is for America to refuse aid to any Muslim country unless it repudiates hostile actions against Israel.

It is a fool's errand,

to 'figure out' who's right and who's wrong. The information we receive from the lame stream media is totally bend to the Israeli side of what is happening. The only 'fact' involved is that women and children are being slaughtered by an overwhelming force of arms, arms made and sold by the United States of America. any comments after taking that FACT into account are superfluous.
Surly take into account self preservation, but at a cost of creating a new generation of HATE... there must be a better way, and there is, neither side has chosen it, but there IS.

Exactly faithson just like

Exactly faithson just like the media ignores Obama's drones killing over a thousand innocent women and children in Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. So the US, which is the supreme military in the world, is no different than Israel in superior forces and killing innocent women and children. So I presume you, being a progressive, equally hates the US for being so brutal as you do Israel. Course while Palestine has support from Syria, Iran, and the US-Israel only has the US. Wow so in reality it is Israel that is drastically the under dog and if not for their protective dome would likely have higher mortality of innocents killed than Palestinian.

Let's see Fox supports Israel, then CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and even NPR are vocal against Israel. Yep overwhelming media support. That is hilarious.

A new generation of hate is muslim and palestinians teaching their children to hate and kill jews. I don't see Israel indoctrinating their kids into terrorism as the muslim world.

There is an easy way. Have

There is an easy way. Have Hamas stop firing at Israel. Israel tried not shooting at Hamas, and that didn't work.....they have broken EVERY cease fire. But if you want to blame Israel, feel free.....the logic is unimaginable, but your choice to make.

rather than support violence

rather than support violence for violence's sake on either side.. I prefer a higher mindset, that allows for the good in man to come to the forefront, a mindset that calls man to realize that 'violence begets violence'. I have faith that Our Lord and Master would side with us 'peacemakers', of course it is up to each to justify their 'mindset'.

Lalaland thinking

Some may say I need to be afraid
Of losing everything
Because of where I
Had my start and where I made my name
Well, everything's the same
In the la-la land machine

Well, I'm not gonna change
In the la-la land machine
I will stay the same
In the la-la land...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will never convince some ...wasting our time..let them live in lalaland....& when they are on the mountain top & bullets are flying their way...tell them to pull in that higher mindset....& float away..

bye bye...I will try to fight & protect myself.

Faithson. Israel isn't

Faithson. Israel isn't supporting violence for the sake of violence. They are trying to stop Hamas from killing them. Israel has agreed to MANY MANY cease fires, just to get shot at anyway. I really am curious, what would you suggest Israel do to keep from being killed by Hamas?

Frequently people are forced to swear to a certain religion and are still shot in the head ... or decapitated ... or both.

Good luck with that "higher mindset".

Hey, maybe you can use the Jedi-mindtrick to get Hamas to stop shooting at Israel!! Seems thats the left's only solution is to think about the situation; giving no thought that radical terrorists don't give a crap about peace!!

It's THEIR WORDS, not mine!! They even stated before this most recent ceasefire ended, that they were going to resume rockets as soon as possible. Again, it's THEIR WORDS, listen to them!!

Again, I'm not yelling at anyone with caps; just brining emphasis to those particular words.

"I have faith that Our Lord and Master would side with us 'peacemakers', of course it is up to each to justify their 'mindset'."

Somehow, I'm not buying this; maybe it's because of Christ's on words.

Matthew 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

Since HE is going to destroy both their body AND soul in hell, I don't think he has a problem with Israel defending itself and blowing Hamas into another dimension!!

These radical Islamists are pure evil!! It's amazing that those on the left refuse to listen to their OWN WORDS!! They've stated over and over the goal is to completely annihilate Israel and the Jews. Why do they not listen to their own words??

I think you will find that the following Bible verse to be true: "The heart of man is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it"?

It does amaze me how some cannot see this conflict for what it is !
Please answer the following question:

If Hamas had the weapons Israel possesses, how long would Israel exist? Do you think Hamas would show the same restraint that Israel has shown with regards to civilians or would the kill every man, woman and child in Israel?

always interesting how

always interesting how conservatives are so up in arms about pulling one's self up by their bootstraps and yet... when it comes to violence in the world they look to the ALMIGHTY to be the One to change it all... Armageddon, Rapture, etc.... I am of a mind the work of bringing peace to the world is OUR WORK, work that WE as faither's and believers must make happen. I am for sure, not planning on some -od of the Old Testament to show up and handle MY and OUR problems with using violence to solve OUR problems... Of course, I don't believe in Hell, I believe in inhalation, after a just hearing before the Ancient of Days, so I just might be way off base. but I can live with that.

If

if a frog had wings he would not bump his arse. Israel has a right to secure it's population. How it can continue to believe that it's military power over time will somehow overcome it's sworn enemy only shows the shortsightedness of its leaders. Co-existence is the only real future where peace and security can be realized. The sooner Israeli leadership realize this, the sooner movement can be made that will secure their population by peaceful means, not violence.

So you actually believe that Israel can make peace with those that have sworn to their destruction. This is irrational and delusional. What exactly do you think they should do.....lay down their arms and surrender.
