Nostalgic for radio host

Driving in and about Augusta and Richmond County, I think back 35 to 40 years ago when the late George Fisher entertained us on radio station WGAC in the morning.

He would read the news to us, give us the time and temperature, and “march” the children off to school. Then he would make the comment: “The shortest distant between two points here in Augusta is under construction.”

How true it is today, 35 to 40 years later!

George Fisher

George Fisher was well known in Washington DC I discovered when I lived there. He was at WTOP, a flagship station for many well known radio personalities. I once heard Larry King talking about how much he liked George. I didn't hear George live until I returned to Augusta and he was ill by then. He wasn't able to talk for long and would often resort to playing records on the WGAC morning show.

A Good Man!

I only knew Mr. Fisher as an acquaintance, but I know two of his daughters very well. He was a good man and raised a wonderful family.

George Fisher

Never forgotten!!
He marched all 6 of my children off to school and entertained me, as a mother, with his more than pleasant radio show. Those were the truly good old days and George Fisher was one of the best, if not THE best DJ's and commentators on Augusta radio.
(Don't want to sell Buddy Carr of BBQ short - he was one funny DJ that brought a lot of joy and humor to those that listened. Too sad that his life was cut short).

WGAC

has some real winners now don't they? And I generally agree with their politics but I don't see how their egos fit into a radio.
