A lot of these initiatives originally were Republican proposals; nevertheless, conservatives on Capitol Hill still are responding with skepticism and obfuscation to a plan that is earning Obama condemnation from many in his own party for being too hard on immigrants.
U.S. Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, recently said: “The president caused this self-inflicted crisis on the border by refusing to enforce the law, and now he is requesting a $3.7 billion bailout from the taxpayers to rectify his mistakes.” This is Republicans’ rationale for not supporting the bill? Because Obama finally has come around to their side?
It’s clear that Republicans are playing politics and are committed to opposing anything the president suggests, even if it contains elements of their own agenda. Whatever Obama is for, they are against. It’s that simple – and it plainly illustrates which party is responsible for the gridlock on Capitol Hill.
