Fight our socialist drift

  • Follow Letters

Growing our government with borrowed money at the lowest interest rates ever diminishes our credit-worthiness and shrinks capital available to our country’s productive forces.

Irresponsible congressional and administration spending is forcing the American people to accept a higher debt limit again. No conservative outcry will stop this trend because our country now is controlled by a self-serving elite, controlling nearly half of the voting public dependent on government benefits. Congress will not change our counterproductive tax code of 73,000 pages. So we keep complaining about the unfair distribution of wealth, etc.

From the 1950s through the ’80s, 80 percent of Americans thought there was plenty of opportunity and freedom in our country. It now is down to barely 50 percent of Americans believing this. We are unable to find and elect a capable statesman to lead our country through the morass of international intrigue and expectations for our leadership. Our leftist government has an inability to rally support from other freedom-seeking nations in our effort to create peaceful solutions among the worthy nations and religions.

Most of our politicians are unable to fill such a challenge. The low-information voter is unable to differentiate between a politician and a statesman. The media, if willing and able, could fill a void here, but they don’t.

A young Soviet officer in the summer of 1945 told me that their political system was best under Premier Joseph Stalin when he created a worker’s paradise, insofar as the mass of people would have government-designed jobs down to the street sweepers, and the now-Soviet elite would control this effort with discipline. The Soviet officer corps was an important part of this elite – they were not to mingle with common soldiers. The army was a useful tool but strictly supervised by the political arm of Stalin’s power structure.

Soon after Soviet occupation in 1945 in Eastern Europe, private property began to be confiscated from private owners to be distributed among the workers, five to eight acres each. Remember the “worker’s paradise”?

The subsequent failure of mini-farms then created massive communist state farms run by Moscow’s politburo, not by farmers. It collapsed after 70 years.

We are not there, of course, but gradual dictation by central government, with ever-increasing regulations and restrictions, will lead us into a central socialist system that will collapse under its own inefficient weight. Our internal strength of the people should prevent this by electing strong individual candidates who don’t care about re-election.

oh, but "our" stalin is better than "their" stalin

our stalin lowers the oceans and feeds and heals the people
because we all know the oceans have never changed
and people have never been fed and healed
their stalin and their stalin's system killed millions
but our stalin doesn't yet have that sort of power
yet... but by his irs and his epa and his foreign policy and his increased debt do we know him

Another great letter by S.G.; however, I offer one correction---we are headed toward FASCISM! The president and the Democratic party are fascists. They want to control the economy and our lives while leaving the means of production in private hands but controlled by the government.

They are acting like a dictatorial party. Just look at the threats by Schumer and Mendez in the senate saying if the House does not come across with an immigration bill the president will "borrow powers necessary" to do the comprehensive immigration bill by executive order!

From where is he "borrowing" the power and what gives this Marxist the right? The Democrats have gotten completely away from the Constitution and the separation of powers and the bi-camel form of legislative governing.

Somehow, we must stop these tyrannical people and the first step is taking the Senate in '14. We are lost of we don't.

Fascism is the correct definition

Is has gone beyond socialism. However, the Supreme Court handed the prez a small defeat in the unconstitutional passing of executive orders. The CofC only has limited authority when it comes to passing exec orders and he exceeds that authority. If allowed to continue to get away with it, he will eventually pass one to confiscate guns, take our retirement funds, our land, and who-knows-what else. We have to hope conservatives get out and vote en masse and at least some of those living off the government will realize where this country is going and make the hard decision to get off the dole and vote out these tyrants.

So why hasn't he done that already? What's stopping him?

It's sad to see so many people with a gloom-and-doom mentality. That will destroy America faster than anything.

Folks, times have changed. The right-wing conservatives are dwindling in number, and instead of wasting time harping about the good old days and making the gloom-and-doom predictions, people would be better served by figuring out how to compromise with those who do not believe as they do- who are in the majority.

It took the SCOTUS to stop

It took the SCOTUS to stop him from violating the law by making recess appointments when Senate was NOT in recess, corgi. Why do you continue to defend his lawlessness. And NO......no other president made recess appointments while congress was NOT in recess, and even told him specifically that they were not in recess.

He has been held in contempt for imposing a moratorium on drilling that was illegal. What's stopping him? He can only violate so many laws at a time. Do you want a list?

Real Issue Is What Follows Economic Collapse

Mr. von Schweinitz's lead in was the issue of growing our government with borrowed money. The Tea Party wing of the Republican party makes noise about it, but neither of the major parties has any intention of fixing the problem.

There are plenty of examples of governments failing after economic collapse. You can start with Russia and Germany early in the 20th century and go through numerous regime changes in South America.

The pattern is the same - after a collapse, some strong man comes in to save the country. The dictator declares martial law and makes new laws without bothering to consult elected representatives. Anyone who disagrees disappears or is sent to a re-education camp.

As much as I would like to say it can't happen here, we are locked into the pattern.

Some people can see the big picture.......some can only see their next welfare check.

Some otherwise intelligent people can look at our debt, our unemployment, our Labor Participation Rate, the economy shrinking 3% last quarter, our businesses moving overseas, our totally failed foreign policy........and still sing "don't worry, be happy". I just don't understand them. If what we have today is not gloom and doom I don't know what is.

Right in front of our eyes...but we are blind.

For instance..

Toilets are water free & THAT doesn't work--we still have to reflush & reflush..
Light bulbs in your house have to certain kind..I don't like them--I hate them.
Babies are supposed to be buckled on BACK seat only or you will be fined...we see how that is working with baby deaths.
No smoking in most places now...well drinking can kill you too, will that be banned next.
Seat belts buckled or fines...maybe it saves a life but should you HAVE TO.
Heavens if you dare say something that isn't pc correct...woe to you...stupid as can be--put PC in the garbage can.

Many others but my blood pressure gets up just thinking about them..

Corgimom, the economy

Corgimom, the economy CONTRACTED (for our liberal economical challenged readers, the economy got smaller) by 3% last quarter. There are rumblings this quarter may not be that great either. More people on welfare, more people on welfare, record people on disability . We have added $7 trillion to the deficit . Our southern boarder is a mess, the VA is a mess, the IRS is riddled with scandals and we have A Mad Magazine president " what me worry". Clearly Obama is theist incompetent corrupt president in history or he is running an agenda to ruin America. The Supreme Court just invalidated (9 to 0) Obama's "recess" appointments. What happens to the rulings they made? Oh never mind, I'll read about in the papers Obama will deal with it!

.
No, freedom will NEVER be completely "lost" primarily because of the Second Amendment. Even if that were to be nullified by left wing zealots, there are now so many weapons out there that a revolution could never be stopped.

And don't think for a minute that the American people would be put down by the American military in such a case. The American military IS PART AND PARCEL of the American people. Our soldiers are NOT automatons.

If we lose it all to tyranny, then we will be forced to resort to 1776 mode and mindset and reestablish a government of, by and for the people.

In the meantime, it is not too late for reason to prevail.

Just remember..... "When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary........"

"No conservative outcry will stop this trend because our country now is controlled by a self-serving elite, controlling nearly half of the voting public dependent on government benefits."
-------
The flaw in this analysis is that, since (and including) Reagan, spending has been out of control regardless of the political leanings of the party in power. If you were to include gov't contracts, and access to legislative and tax policy that benefit specific private sectors and income levels, with gov't benefits, then you would begin to tell the broader truth in a way that could actually yield some consensus action. The claim that it is only the recipients of gov't benefits that profit from, and politically support, a specific party or political affiliation is completely absurd.

But as long as folks deny their own culpability in a problem, whether it be denial by the left or denial by the right or denial by the middle, then the divide-and-conquerors will continue to exploit the petty squabbling of all of us whose only real political power lies in the formation of large-scale alliances.

Actually, I must agree with Burninator on the topic of spending

This certainly isn't a left or right issue. The government wastes ENORMOUS amounts of money, on just about anything you can think of. I know several people who have government contracts to repair and work on federally owned homes. They get paid ABSURD amounts of money, to preform the smallest of tasks. The old $500 for a hammer, is NOT far fetched when it comes to government.

"Fascism is the correct definition...

....Is has gone beyond socialism."

Fascism may, or may not be the "correct" definition. I don't think we have enough clarity about the final plans. Communism may actually be more correct. Hopefully, we'll never know.

What we DO know for sure is that the President doesn't like Capitalism as an Economic system, nor a Democratic Republic as a form of government. He doesn't object to the private ownership of the means of production (at least not yet), but he thinks their tax burden should be overwhelming and he believes his government should have the power to pick winners and losers, financing them via the taxes imposed on voters.

I don't think we know yet what form of government he favors. Presently, he appears to consider himself a Monarch. Yes, he grudgingly follows at least some direction by the Judicial branch, but has publicly (and frequently) declared (and demonstrated) his ability to control our society by fiat. He has confiscated much of the power from the Legislative branch and brags all he needs to make laws is a "pen and a phone." He's proved it too.

I still don't think he's calling all the shots. I think he was selected and groomed for his position by wealthy globalists who dream of stepping forward one day as World leaders who control everything and everybody. The ultimate Communists. Totalitarians. I doubt they'll actually be Corporatists, but who knows? They need to "fundamentally transform" America before they get started and I think that's the job he was (s)elected to do.

No need to fear my friend; just always keep in mind that we have something they refuse to account for.....called The Savior!! I've read the end of the Book and we win!!

I've studied in depth for many, many years. There is the positive part of God's plan, which is Salvation; but there is a negative part that must be fulfilled as well. That is occurring now!! Everything I'm seeing going on in the world today, is foretold to us. He tells us to NOT be troubled, stay strong, STAND for what we believe in, Stand for HIM!!! I believe we MUST see what truly happens when MANKIND is in charge of the world, and how corruption and deceit rule when this happens. THEN, when He returns, we will see just how awesome the life hes given us, truly is!! Their lies and deceit will be over!! We will then be told the TRUTH and nothing but the TRUTH!! But in order to truly appreciate how great His Kingdom is, we MUST remember these days!!

Do not fear my friend. This Country is Freedom's last stand; if freedom fails here, there is no where left for freedom to flee!! This Country was built by HIM!!! He will not let it completely collapse!! HE, will do our fighting for us at the end!! In the mean time, keep STANDING for truth, and remember we have The Savior!!

Burninater forgets two facts.

Burninater forgets two facts. Reagan shut down government to try to reduce federal spending and the House of Representatives was controlled by Democrats under Reagan and hence so was spending. So Reagan got stuck either passing Dem spending bills or shutting down government. Now the Republicans in the House shut down Government to try to control spending a year or so ago and got burned, Obama and the press blamed them , Obama shut down the WWII etc. so it is not all Republican's fault. Also remember the hypocrisy of Obama complaining about debt ceiling as a Senator but as President allowing $7 trillion to be added to the deficit. Obama even chaffed against sequester (promised us during a debate it wouldn't happen) and sequester was HIS idea.

"Now the Republicans in the House....

....shut down Government to try to control spending a year or so ago..."

There is no Constitutional mechanism for the House to "shut down" the government. Only the President has that power.

The government was "shut down" because the President refused to accept an appropriations bill that didn't include what HE wanted funded. Actually, the Senate Majority Leader refused to send him such a bill because he wanted the government "shut down" too.

The way the system is supposed to work is that the House (who has the "power of the purse" decides which programs will be funded and how much that funding will be.

The Founding Fathers didn't envision Presidents demanding their pet programs be funded at levels THEY demanded at the risk of "shutting down the government" being blamed on Congress.

We have a mainstream media in cahoots with democrats in an effort to subvert the Constitutional process and convince voters it's all the fault of the wascally wepublicans.

Sadly, they succeeded.
