"Diversity" harms U.S.

  • Follow Letters

Former Colorado Gov. Richard Lamm gave a speech in Washington, D.C., in 2004 discussing immigration overpopulation. He started off by saying, “If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let’s destroy America.”

While not original, his plan nonetheless is being implemented inch by inch by progressives in both parties.

Lamm begins with:

• Turn America into a bilingual or multilingual and bicultural country.

• Invent multiculturalism and encourage immigrants to maintain their cultures.

• Encourage various cultural subgroups living in America to enforce their differences rather than, as Americans, emphasize their similarities.

• Make the fastest-growing demographic the least educated. Add a second underclass, unassimilated and antagonistic to our population. This underclass would have a 50 percent dropout rate from high school.

• Enlist big foundations and businesses to give these efforts lots of money. Establish a cult of victimology. Start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population.

• Promote dual citizenship and divided loyalties. Celebrate diversity over unity.

• Make it politically incorrect to discuss anything against the cult of diversity. Use words such as “hate,” “racist” and “xenophobe” to halt debate. Make it impossible to enforce immigration laws. Redefine illegal immigration as immigration and insist that immigration has always been good for America.

Recently U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was ordered to release 68,000 dangerous, illegal aliens. Add to this the open border, the debt and anarchy at the highest levels of government – all of which is destroying this nation, all by a handful of people comparatively.

This is the progressive Democrats’ agenda, with a few progressive Republicans thrown in for good measure.

So what does America look like in the end? Where does this agenda take all of us? I know. Do you?

Very true. Illegal

Very true. Illegal immigrants are helping bankrupt our health care, take jobs American citizens need, violate our laws, and bankrupt our nation by receiving social services to which they are not untitled. Illegal aliens cost California $2 billion dollars a year. Recently the US Government released over 36,000 convicted illegal aliens back into American society.

Go to California, you can see

Go to California, you can see it in action, and California is going broke.

I went to my granddaughters' award ceremony at their elementary school. Over half of it was conducted in Spanish.

I looked at my son and DIL, and said, "How is this happening, in an American school?"

Hyphenated America

African-American, Latin-American, European-American, Asian-American, Gay-American etc. The practice of labeling groups of Americans as "hyphenated-Americans" is destroying unity in "our" country. We are all Americans. Let's start acting like it.

Diversity isn't bad-it's why

Diversity isn't bad-it's why everyone wants to come to America. America has always been diverse and not too accepting either like with the Irish and racial violence associated with them in early america. But the whole idea is we celebrate diversity with freedom and respect for differences, like atheist or christian or muslim. We have to tolerate others freedoms (we may detest) to enjoy our own-which they may detest. The problem lies when people attack you for your beliefs and we no longer continue to be a civil and free society-because they want to attack your freedom but that street goes both ways and is a dangerous action. We need to all agree on being American first to accept and enjoy these freedoms so people can enjoy ethnic and cultural diversity. Remember since all humans arose and migrated Out of Africa-we are all african-americans no matter where we came from-just different routes.

There is a bunch of theories

There is a bunch of theories and some evidence to support them, but as it stands now most accept the Out of Africa. The number of migrations and where they migrated seems to be the main issue. But science is a process and it can change.

Diversity is good-I wouldn't

Diversity is good-I wouldn't want a America full of clones with same mentality and ideology. It would lead to stagnation. It is the mix of ideas, ideology, and creativity that has made this country great. Conservatives, liberals, and progressives have all done some really great things in history-but also some bad choices too. But as long as we bond as Americans, a collective, we can't help but succeed and eventually progress.

What a great, well written, well thought out letter!

What a great, well written, well thought out letter!

Some of our problems were are having today are caused by the fact that the left hates America and is not proud to be Americans. They are ashamed of our history and the foundation upon which it has developed. (Of course, this is caused by them being taught history only from the leftist prospective.)

To go along with that the left does not believe in immigrates assimilating into American society. One of the altars at which they worship is multiculturalism which is a belief that all countries and all peoples cultures are equal and one is no better than the other. Everything is relative.

The left does not believe that immigrates should become "Americanized". They believe they should remain Mexicans in America, Africans in America, Haitians in America, or what-ever-country-they come-from in America rather than giving up their native country ways and allegiences and becoming immersed in America.

If someone comes to America they should become Americans. This means speaking English, being 100% loyal to America over any other country, not living in a ghetto of like countrymen. People should come here to be Americans and contribute to America rather than take from America.

There is no right for anyone to come to America. Just because they live in a country that is sorry does not mean they have a right to come to America. We should screen and tighten our standards of entry for everyone to come to America. Immigration and failure of assimilation has been the downfall of many civilizations because they lost their culture and who they were and we are not immune to that lesson of history. Reestablish an Ellis Island type system of screening.

If you want to see the detriment of unfettered immigration look at California in particularly Southern California where Mexican immigrates are now the majority and have moved Mexico north.

There is a big difference

There is a big difference between being "accepting" and being STUPID. Open, uncontrolled, borders and IMMEDIATE accessibility to TOTAL LIFE SUPPORT "social services", welfare, food stamps, free medical care, subsidized housing, and mandated bi-lingual schools at taxPAYER expense is simply STUPID. Of course, it's also STUPID to provide those things on a permanent basis to families that have been here for 150 years or more too. Hey, but this is American....where half can't cut it and the other half pay the freight for all.

Diversity was suppose be by

Diversity was suppose to encouraged by State, but the ever growing strong central govt is really neutering state diversity. The fed. govt needs to let states have more freedom to be incubators and test out ideas to see what work so other states can mirror if they so choose. I don't care if a conservative or progressive or liberal comes up with an idea that is practical, fiscally sound and it efficiently gets the job done. The central govt has done some great things like national parks, CDC, interstate highways, preventing monopolies and price gouging, but they seem to have abandoned those efforts (let infrastructure issues go for years with no attention) and wondered off into strange territory of the govt having its own plans independent of the people. The drama and theatrics on CSPAN is deserving of it's own Academy Awards.

I don't care where you

I don't care where you immigrate (or sneak-in) from....cook your ethnic foods, speak your native language in your home or neighborhood, but when you send a child to a U.S. public school, EXPECT that they will learn in English only and they will be expected to speak it there. EXPECT that signs in stores will be in English, so YOU learn it too. I don't think learning a country's language is too much to ask. Cheesus...if I moved to another country, I would learn the language, not expect them to cater to me.

I completely agree. If we keep having signs in spanish everywhere and bilingual schools then there will never be an incentive for them to learn English.

http://www.laalmanac.com/immigration/im04a.htm

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), an estimated 2,830,000 illegal immigrants
resided in California in 2011, compared to 1.5 million in 1990 and 2.5 million in 2000. This number represents
about 24 percent of the entire estimated illegal immigrant population in the United States (11.5 million in 2011).
This estimate puts the percentage of California's population that are illegal immigrants to be about 7.5 percent,
with a majority (about 60 percent) being from Mexico. Across the entire United States, an estimated 6.8 million
illegal immigrants were from Mexico, up from 4.7 million in 2000.

Another little tidbit for the apologists

The DOJ estimates that a million gang members operate in the United States in gangs such as MS-13, the Bloods, the Crips, Sur-13, Mexican Mafia, Latin Kings, Surenos, Kurdish Pride, and Mexican Posse.

Among gang members are illegal aliens and those born in the United States of illegal alien parents. The United States is infested with these gangs, many of them interlocked and many international in scope.

The U.S. Border Patrol, in one week (March 25-31) arrested 11 previously deported gang members attempting to re-enter the United States. Since the Border Patrol estimates that for each apprehension, at least five illegal crossers succeed, during that week in March perhaps 55 previously deported illegal aliens re-entered the United States.
Gang members and terrorists use forged Social Security cards, driver’s licenses, and matricula consular ID cards. The Mexican government has opened an office in California for the specific purpose of distributing matricula consular cards to all comers.

General comment

Little Italie, Little China, the community of Irish. Let's not talk about diversity, these are examples of immigrants feeling like THEY MUST stay to themselves! Talking about discrimination and division! I have said this MULTIPUL times, "If it were not for Hispanics, our food would cost perhaps double of the low prices that we enjoy now!!" I wonder why Irish, Italians, and Chinese are MUCH MORE WELCOMED in modern day United States than Latinos??!! Perhaps it is EASY to be very discriminative toward the very people that do almost all of the "STOOP LABOR" in this country!! Whether they are legal or illegal, "WE SHOULD THANK GOD FOR THEM; ALL!!!!"
