Elect Bartley chairman

  • Follow Letters

Because of Columbia County’s rapid development, decisions today will affect us for years to come. Jim Bartley, an exceptional builder and outspoken political activist, has the knowledge and insight to make the right decisions for Columbia County as our next commission chairman.

It has been my honor and privilege to represent Bartley as his real estate agent. I can attest to the quality and high standards he represents. Satisfied owners of homes built by his business have recommended him to friends and family as a result of his reputation for his attention to detail, superior workmanship and personal integrity.

Professionally and personally, Bartley cares deeply about the direction of Columbia County, and he expresses his ideas in commission meetings and other political
arenas. As a successful businessman, Bartley understands all the challenges of running a business in today’s economy.

He has a clear sense of right and wrong, and is committed to preserving the community’s long-term, best interests.

Bartley has the experience and skill to make positive changes in Columbia County. He would bring an articulate and intelligent voice to the county commission, and has the courage to stand up to any special interests. With his dynamic vision for Columbia County’s future, concern for fiscal accountability and leadership potential, Jim Bartley is the right choice for county commission chairman.

Just say no.

No more "builders"! We need someone in charge who is not beholden to real estate interests and will make the best decisions for the citizens, not the builders and real estate barons.

I agree with "itsanotherday1" Columbia County

does not need another real estate connected commissioner. As a semi retired real estate agent, this area is full of individuals that perceive great progress however it's through a slanted perspective which is tainted by the money they hope to make. True honesty, ethics, integrity are values that are hard to find in this real estate marketplace. A great builder does not necessarily make a good politician or office holder or decision maker. Mr. Bartley does indeed have a keen sense of right & wrong especially in the judgement of other people not necessarily his own actions & words. Columbia County needs someone that has the experience & knowledge of all of the needs of the county & predict with certainty what will benefit this county overall. Columbia County needs commissioners that can see through the eyes of the citizens & determine what & where things need to be accomplished within the monetary guidelines that we have. They need to have a firm commitment in reference to budget restrictions-the sky is not the limit nor should it be. Sometimes the best office holders are the ones that maintain the present situation if it is working well-" if it ain't broken don't fix it". With Ft. Gordon's expansion & the ongoing influx of people moving to Columbia County there is a need for someone that can predict the infrastructure requirements that the county will have to have but it has to be a balanced approach not a selective approach. The commissioners as a whole need to improve their knowledge of the rural areas as well as the city. Columbia County has tremendous potential but the potential is not just in a six block area of Evans.

Real Estate Developer

As a general rule, you don't want real estate developers on county commissions who approve/deny re-zoning requests, development variances, future road and highway routes, etc.

But Ron Cross has been commission chair for a lo - o - ong time. Sometimes you have to jettison general rules of thumb in order to remove someone who has hung on too long.

I'm not fond of Ron Cross BUT

he's done a pretty good job of bringing Columbia County to the place it is now & I would sure prefer him to Jim Bartley! Columbia County has had to go through some fast changes in the last few years adjusting to a huge influx of new people & companies. Even though the problems of cronyism & nepotism still stand, Cross has kept the county drawing new people & business. Bartley is part of the same gang that wields the power in Columbia County. I would like to see someone NOT connected to the present power establishment. Too many people are connected & that appears to be the downfall of the county government as well we all know.
