Workers invisible to GOP

  • Follow Letters

Our Republican governor and our Republican-controlled legislature is doing what the Republicans nationally are doing. They have decided that needy Americans – in our case, needy Georgians – are invisible.

Even worse, the governor and legislature are indifferent to them. So what if 600,000 Georgians go without health care? So what if rural hospitals are closing? So what if the governor’s arithmetic is ridiculous when the Affordable Care Act will pay 100 percent of expanded Medicaid for three years and 90 percent thereafter, and has been appropriated by Congress?

Just as I think Gov. Nathan Deal escaped investigation by a congressional ethics committee by resigning from Congress, so now he is cowardly running from one of the state’s most important decisions for thousands of Georgians. He is ready to give up his authority as the governor by turning the decision of expanded Medicaid to the Republican-controlled legislature. Gov. Deal is insincere. He is against any plan that President Obama puts forth, no matter the consequences.

The Republicans not only are illogical but also create dramatic falsehoods. Most of the public wants an increase in the minimum wage. The Republicans counter with “it will be suicide” – again, showing their indifference to the needy. And they distract the public by pushing bills to allow guns to be brought into churches and college campuses, forcing church members to hold divisive discussions whether or not to allow them.

They lie about President Obama’s “stimulus” plan, saying it was a failure. They are indifferent to the fact that millions of dollars from this plan helped Augusta’s needy high schools to improve their attendance and student capabilities.

Voters have to understand that Georgia is becoming one of the most regressive states in the nation. Attempts by our leadership to bring jobs and manufacturing into our state will fail because workers will not tolerate this abuse, and will move to states where everyone is treated as a person and not neglected.

Let’s change the scene and throw Deal and his buddies out so working people will become visible again.

Lowell Greenbaum

Augusta

do you know who is really invisible?

as a direct result of democratic party policy
THREE SCHOOLS IN RICHMOND COUNTY HAD ZERO STUDENTS PASS THE AP EXAMS LAST YEAR!
that can be nothing less than pure racism
by the democratic party
they've taken over education for 40 years now
and the results are, drum roll please
THREE SCHOOLS IN RICHMOND COUNTY HAD ZERO STUDENTS PASS THE AP EXAMS LAST YEAR!
which shows the effectiveness of these schools
and the quality of the education they give black kids
who aren't given the skills to get a good job
then the democtrats want to raise the minimum wage again
which always makes the unemployment rate for young black males go UP
then they want more low wage earners from Mexico to come here
which floods the market with low wage workers, and keeps real wages very low
goodness... how the democratic party abuses the young black male
they educate them well enough to only get a minimum wage job
(THREE SCHOOLS IN RICHMOND COUNTY HAD ZERO STUDENTS PASS THE AP EXAMS LAST YEAR!)
they flood the low wage market so there is a glut of low wage workers, then they raise the minimum wage, so that even low wage jobs need some type of skill set, because the worker must still produce an amount equivalent to what they're paid
my goodness how these democrats have harmed the young black male!
they are more effective racists than the kkk and the voters should hold them, this modern jim crow, in disdain
but do go on, Lowell, because the fruits of your party are ripe, and you're picking votes
THREE SCHOOLS IN RICHMOND COUNTY HAD ZERO STUDENTS PASS THE AP EXAMS LAST YEAR!
ZERO!

Workers are REALLY invisible to the DNC! That is why they keep reclassifying those who are out of work to jigger the unemployment numbers to make them artificially low.

Corgi, the schools throughout the country are dem controlled and have been for years. Yes the RCBOE is doing a lousy job but I bet they're more dems on it than repubs. This is the same in every lousy school district in the country. Dem control = lousy schools. Dem control = welfare poverty center. Whatever the dems control is a mess and all you have to do is look at the major cities in financial trouble with high crime rates and the common denominator is they're led by dems.

Let's analyze a few of the letter writer's points...

The minimum wage increase is a job killer. If it will lift people out of poverty, why has it not done so in the past? What many don't understand is if you increase the minimum wage for those earning it the employer would have to then increase the wages for those who are now making $10 an hour because they would be at the new minimum wage if their pay was not increased.

Let's look at an example of a company with 32 employees and 12 earn the minimum wage. Assume the increase is $2/hour. That means that the employer pays these ten an additional increase of $47,320 per year for no increase in productivity (12 employees x 8 hours/day x $2/hour x 5 days/week x 52 weeks/year) not counting social security.

Assume the other 20 employees are increased $2/hour for the wage differential and using the same formula comes to an additional $83,200/year.

So the employer has increased his labor costs $130,520/year not counting social security and has no increase in productivity. How can he continue to survive at that rate without cutting some costs and laying off the marginal people will be the first course of action...assuming he can stay in business.

As far as the decision for the Medicaid "carrot" enticement, the governor believes that such significant increases in taxpayer funding that will come about when Uncle Sugar cuts and runs should be left to the legislative branch of the people's representatives and not to be done by executive fiat as lovingly embraced by Democrats while a leftist Democrat is president.

The Democratic leader of the Senate is the reason this congress has been so ineffective because of his refusal to bring legislation passed by the House to a vote thereby putting the Democratic senators on record as having to stand for something.

Finally, would you name any Georgian going without HEALTHCARE? By law a person must be treated if they show up at the ER. To me that's healthcare.

Let's face the truth....Obamacare is a disaster and nothing but another attempt to bankrupt the country with Marxism.

Depending on the ACA is ridiculous-in ten years over a trillion in added debt. So it is not a solution. Yep that promise of 100% is a shallow as any promise made by the president and an ever changing law at the whim of Obama. Blah, blah, blah. There is your logic Lowell. Logically we need to rid ourselves of a law the CBO say will not accomplish any of the said goals of the law.

But we are suppose to believe that people like me who complained of my new higher costs, and Fox news are lying about all the problems of the ACA. That is about as lame and low as you can get. Say that to my face-I'll turn the other check and you can hit me again, then its my turn for my two. LOL. I just wonder how stupid the voting population really is because are they so ignorant of reality and the lies of the Obama administration that they would lend credence to any Dem talking point. Shameful

Biskit, that is the plan of the lying, racist communist in the Whitehouse and most of the democrat party. When it fails they will replace with a single payer system which is run entirely by fed gov't. That was the plan all along.

I have reason to believe that many "low information" voters are waking up to the lies, deceit and divisiveness of the democratic party. We will know for sure this November. A landside victory for conservatives will signal the rejection of liberal progressive policies because Americans have now seen the destructive effects of these policies first hand.

"Affordable Care Act will pay

"Affordable Care Act will pay 100 percent of expanded Medicaid for three years and 90 percent thereafter, and has been appropriated by Congress?"

Lowell...give us a break. We are not stupid. Everyone knows the ACA is already BROKE. It is already confirmed it will cost the country TWICE what was predicted and that is about FOUR TIMES what it will generate. The Congress cannot appropriate money it does not have and everyone knows THE COUNTRY IS BROKE TOO. And NO future Congress is obligated to follow through with what the DEMOCRAT Congress did in 2010.

In other words, the ACA will NEVER pay for 90% of the expanded Medicaid in the future and the burden for expanded Medicaid will eventually fall on STATE TAXPAYERS. It was easy for the 2010 Democrat controlled Congress to SAY the federal government would pay 90% of expanded Medicaid forever but any sane person can already see that the federal government not only does not have the money to pay for expanded Medicaid.....the don't even have the money to pay for the subsidies to people who signed up for ACA subsidized insurance policies. The country is BROKE and Lowell wants the Georgia Governor to agree to break the state budget too.

Governor Deal did the right thing for Georgia taxPAYERS. Damned if we aren't already spending WAY TOO MUCH on welfare and non-productive wards of the state. If the AFFORDABLE Care Act is so damned AFFORDABLE then we should not have to expand Medicaid. Sign those folks up for ACA policies and take the premiums out of their WELFARE checks.

That's a problem for Republican governors who are seeking another term in November election, while refusing funding from Obamacare to expand Medicaid. These Republican governors rode a Tea Party wave in 2010. It's time to send them out with the tide.

You could slap Lowell upside the head with the truth

and it wouldn't faze him in the least. He'd keep right on going spreading this total nonsense as fact.

He's culpable, you know, for the devastation that is happening to people in our country now. He's culpable. He's not the only one, of course, but he actively has helped push us to and over the social and economic cliff we're hanging from at this moment.

Thank you, Lowell. I hope you get to experience exactly the kind of hardship and misery you have been pushing on the rest of us, replete with the offensiveness that is now standard as public social expression. You have certainly facilitated it all; you should get your just deserts for that.
