Life must be protected

Regarding Kathy Edry’s recent exceptional letter titled “Overturn Roe v. Wade” (Jan. 24):

Mrs. Edry has had extensive experience in counseling girls considering abortion or those who actually have had abortions. She is very familiar with the extensive depression most have after the procedure is performed.

Unfortunately, once many of them fully realize that their babies actually have been killed, they are never fully able to put the pain and depression aside, and it remains with them throughout their remaining lives.

One may ask referring to me: How does he know? I have worked extensively with pro-life activities and values since Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in 1973. I have encountered many pregnant women (and teenagers) who were contemplating or have had abortions, and were seeking information and/or emotional help to ease the problems they were dealing with. Unfortunately, if it is post-abortion, we can offer only limited help, other than to encourage them to seek spiritual guidance and forgiveness.

The information and statistics on the Internet will show that one of President Obama’s first official acts as president was to support international abortion activities, which was followed by broad domestic support. Unfortunately, much of our media make it sound as if Planned Parenthood is working tirelessly to end abortion. This is absolutely false. During past years, Obama’s government contributions to Planned Parenthood have ranged about $1.5 million a day, or $540 million a year. That is our money, and this expenditure is totally unreal and unacceptable. What can and must be done to stop it?

Before I close, let me offer two more brief, but very important, thoughts for consideration.

If one of your parents or grandparents had been aborted, how would it have affected you, your family, your children or your grandchildren? Think about it. Also, how many unintended effects on families have occurred and will occur in the next 25, 50 or 100 years? Unbelievable, isn’t it?

Second, what effect does the 55 million innocent babies killed during the past 41 years have upon the actual values and respect we have, or should have acquired, for their lives during this period? In honesty, we can readily see the impact of one abortion or the general acceptance of legal abortions on the absolute value of life.

In a healthy, moral society, we must conclude that all life must be legally protected and defended from conception until natural death. This is a spiritual, moral and natural value that cannot and must not be compromised.

a person made of you

this is the day your baby would have been born
this is the day your baby would have first looked at your eyes
and smiled a smile of you, for you
this is the day you would have discovered that your baby does not like baby food made from beets, and the funniest faces are made of baby food made from beets
this is the day your baby would have taken those first
teetering tottering steps, and fallen, and cried
and you would have taken her happily in your arms with kisses
or another mother, thankful for adoption, would have taken him happily
with kisses
this is the day your child would have let go of your hand and gone into a classroom
and your bursting heart would join the wonderfully contradictory yearning for time to stand still
with the gleeful optimism for the future
the days of happiness and sadness and pain and frustration and the absolute exalted joyous humanity known only in love bonded to a person made of you
of an actual separate individual person created in you
because of you, by an act of you
another you
if this is not the day of the parted suicide, of the amputation of your own reproduced self
if this is not the day of your "cold fruitless moon" deaf to the faint hymns chanting within
oh, the days that would have been...

Just because you have sat
Unpublished

Just because you have sat with some women that have had issues after having an abortion doesn't mean it should be stopped. There are a lot more of women who have had them because of various reasons who's lives have been made better even if it came from a bad situation.

Strange world of moral

Strange world of moral relativism we live-abortion of babies is OK, the death penalty is called draconian, you can't kill your neighbor you go to prison, but you can kill certain people called "war enemies" or "terrorist" and get a medal. I'm confused.

No "babies" have been killed.
Unpublished

No "babies" have been killed. It was be just as inaccurate to say a teenager or an adult had been killed by abortion. Zygotes and fetuses are not babies. The are potential babies, teenagers, or adults. If my parents or grandparents had been aborted, it would not have affected me one iota because I wouldn't exist. Since Mr. Simon believes in spirits, will he take God to task for the many miscarriages that occur? Conception is a biological matter. When Mr. Simon and others can show me where the "soul" actually enters a fertilized egg or where it exists on an anatomy chart, then I will change my mind. Such thinking is superstitious hokum.

Most difficult decisions in

Most difficult decisions in life leave people depressed and in pain.

Look at divorce. Divorce is brutal.

Should we outlaw divorce because people experience depression and pain?

However, logic would tell you

However, logic would tell you that everyone going to Mrs. Edry would be depressed, why else would they seek counseling?

But that doesn't mean that all women become severely depressed- you can't extrapolate that from her experience.

This is only a difficult decision for those that don't know Christ. If a person knows Christ there is no decision to make because His Word is very clear on both divorce and abortion. He says "If you love Me, obey My Word". People make many excuses for both divorce and abortion and it always involved their will, ease comfort and pleasure.

Human Corruption

Vern Simon wrote - "In a healthy, moral society, we must conclude that all life must be legally protected and defended from conception until natural death."

The problem is that our society is neither healthy nor moral.

Abortion foes weep over the unborn while 5 million children go hungry in America and the homeless sleep on cardboard and concrete beds.

We allow the poorest among us to choose between buying medicine or buying food. We imprison more human beings than any other nation on the planet under draconian and inhumane conditions.

If life is to be protected, ALL LIFE, including those already born, must be protected. This means access to healthy food, safe housing, excellent education, free medical care and medicines, and an actual "justice" system in place.

I can only imagine some visitor from another solar system observing us and what they must think. We allow poisons in our food and water. We embrace violence as a way of life. We seek wars as a solution. We exalt the wealthy and condemn the poor. We allow human beings to have no shelter, food or clothing, blame them for their misfortune, and turn away. We allow human beings to be destroyed in their minds, spirit and body in the cages that we call jail and prison - for non-violent offenses. We claim to be Christians yet treat others like animals.

So yes, the terms "healthy" and moral" truly escapes the state of this country.

specsta, if children are going hungry it is because their sorry parents are selling their food stamps for drugs which many are. Giving more will not help the kids. The children should be taken away from the sorry parents. This is what the Great Society, liberals, democrats and black leaders have created.

Shaking My Head...Again

@ teaparty, who wrote - "specsta, if children are going hungry it is because their sorry parents are selling their food stamps for drugs which many are"

Do you actually believe your statement? Is this something you have witnessed and experienced? Or is this some right-wing Rush Limbaugh propaganda being regurgitated?

Let's stick with the facts.

Children are going hungry because extreme poverty exists in this country. It's as simple as that. The chasm between rich and poor grows wider every day. Heartless legislators keep cutting food benefits, which is an absolute shame.

People who have money HAVE NO CLUE WHATSOEVER about surviving in this country when you are poor. Yet, they run their mouths the most to blame poor people for everything. No, poor people are not to blame. It is rich, greedy heartless people who are so selfish they can't look past their perfectly-green lawns to see another human being's plight. It is absolutely nauseating to think about how ignorant some rich people truly are.

Specsta @ 5:19

Do you have any idea how much money is spent on free housing, subsidized housing, HARP housing, etc., etc., EBT, WIC, etc., etc., Medicaid, medicare, prescription drugs via FICA part D, etc.? Do you have any idea how much money is donated to charitable organizations aimed at feeding, sheltering and treating for ailments? How can you sit there and drone on about this society not caring about these things?

Turn NPR, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, etc., off for while and start thinking from scratch about things.

"Children are going hungry because extreme poverty exists in this country."

WHERE ARE THEY? I have not seen, nor read about any starving or malnourished children...except for a few cases of child abuse by drugged up parent(s)...who probably started their slide downhill on "harmless" marijuana.

Extreme poverty my bottom end. I've been to places in the world where there is extreme poverty and every poor person there would trade places in a heartbeat to come here and live at our generous welfare, food stamp, section 8, free school lunch, obamaphone levels. And how would they feel about rich people? They would love to see rich people and know they were in a country where they had the freedom and opportunity to work hard and become one of the rich. They would not sit around watching their welfare flat screen and waiting for their EBT to get refilled.

.
Of course not... everyone knows it's not Limbaugh's doing... Smart people know it's George Bush's fault. If not Bush, then it has to be fault of Fox News, or Ronald Reagan.

All I know for sure is that it can't be blamed on the individual. None of us have free will and none of us are responsible for our actions. We're all just VICTIMS of society.

Another new tax and an accompanying new welfare program is all that's needed to straighten this mess out.
