Bring back capitalism

  • Follow Letters

The rhetoric over Obamacare overshadows the question of whether it is good for the nation or whether it will cause the collapse of the monetary system.

Presently, we owe $17 trillion that we conceivably may be unable to repay. Remember Germany at the end of World War I?

What is ironic is that capitalism is the world’s greatest and best poverty-relief program, and President Obama is trying to destroy it. The pope understands this, and I believe Obama does too.

Many countries do.

Chile, in spite of its military-aided government, has brought economic growth. Argentina and Venezuela, on the other hand, have brought about economic stagnation. Their destructive economic problems lie in crony capitalism, and their liberal governments are impotent.

Draw your own conclusion as to cause. But they do prove my point: Capitalism is the world’s greatest poverty-relief program in history.

Obama wants to destroy this system through his tax program and “spreading” the wealth around – what a good Republican would call the destruction of the national wealth base.

We should open up space for rampant competition, attain efficiencies and bolster innovation. Heavy taxation has the opposite effect, as proved by socialistic and communistic countries.

We were transformed by the Industrial Revolution. We were changed by capitalism. Professions were created, jobs increased, money could be invested, banks and stock brokers were employed. Today, we face being destroyed by socialistic systems.

Without capitalism and the Industrial Revolution, America would not be the economic power it is today. Capitalism does have faults, but they are measurable, manageable and not insurmountable.

Richard E. Hogue

Chile?

The only thing that saved Chile from the bloodshed and economic collapse brought on by Nixon, the CIA, and the Chicago Boys was the return to quasi-socialistic reform, restoring the minimum wage, collective bargaining, and the nationalization of the banks and the copper industry and massive social spending to help the people who suffered under almost total laissez faire capitalism and the right wing dictatorship after the CIA backed coup. "Make the economy scream!"

what are the failures of capitalism?

the three e's
er's and est's, and envy
some people get rich, some people get richer
and some people get richest of all
(rich according to the wage gap between
the poor in Mississippi and the poor in Guatemala
The poor in Guatemala would call our wage gap what it is, envy)
what are the failures of the marxists?
starvation, more starvation, bankruptcy, more bankruptcy,
murder, genocide, gloom, despair, and agony
racism
not our current racism, where it's just another epiphet to be smeared on those who disagree with one's politics, just another nannanannabooboo
but the actual racism where the targeted party (in our case, black children) are moved to lesser lands, and educated in lesser schools, and given lesser lives
lesser lands are the government housing projects, lesser schools those the housing projects are forced to attend, and those surrounding areas forced to attend, and lesser lives are the targets of the government indoctrination where victims are made
victims always have lesser lives
and marxism exploits its victims
wonderful letter, Mr Hogue
oh, and bod, once again, you have told more falsehoods than truth
not to the usual extent, but the free market saved Chile
and socialism almost killed it

Sorry ymnbde, you don't know your history

Pinochet did the killing thanks to Nixon, Kissinger, and the CIA. At least 40,000 that they know about, and who knows how many unknown dead. FUBELT? WE ARE THE ONES WHO TRIED TO KILL THE CHILEAN ECONOMY! Care to peruse the declassifed documents showing that we went with "Track ll", the plan to destabilize the economy of Chile and make sure they could get no parts to repair machinery, trucks or any assistance to maintain their economy? Spent over $6 million to subvert the government including having the CIA fund trucker strikes? Did you never hear of the famous words Nixon said about Chile and taken down on a note by CIA director Richard Helms? That's why I posted them. "Make the economy scream!" Happy reading.

Make everyone rich

We could do that but we would have to have 100% control of the school system.....beginning in pre-school......& we know how that would go over...

They feared Chile would

They feared Chile would become Marxist and allow communism to spread. Unfortunately a junta govt sprang up. Just like Iraq was about Nation building-another seemingly good idea that didn't go as planned. Just like Obama's ACA was suppose to address uninsured (now more uninsured) and lower cost (the ten years savings is ridiculously small and the majority of people have had an increase in their health care costsl) of health care. I guess presidents try and fail.

In Marxist countries...

Marxist countries people stand in line for bread. In capitalist countries bread stands in line for people.

Throughout history there has always been a group of people who believed they knew what was best for the people and they were the ones to do what is best for the people and themselves if only they had the power.

That's what we have in our government today, a group of people who think they have been touched by some higher power that makes them so special that they can do what has never been done in history---effectively run a centralized government.

Another problem we have is that too many people are willing to give up their liberty (a word that I cannot remember ever escaping from the mouth of Obama) to some bureaucrat who happens to migrate to DC and get a government job. Many of them have the same abilities as that sorry brother-in-law in the family but somehow ended up with a government job writing regulations.

Richard Hogue is right in what he says. Capitalism was invented here and has improved the standard of living more than any economic system in history. The only thing I disagree with it the current term "crony capitalism". It is not ''capitalism". It is "cronyism" and the ''capitalism" should be dropped from the term.

Chilean Social Security

Thanks for the history lesson, Bod. I am sure of one thing about Chile, though. Their social security system has allowed peasants to accumulate a previously undreamed of wealth and pass that wealth to their heirs. Chile was first in western hemisphere to establish a social security system (in 9125), but by 1980 it was experiencing the same thing we are now facing - insolvency. It was revised and a private system adopted in 1981. Workers don't need to be experience investors. Their contributions are invested in domestic enterprises and the results over the decades since have been rather dramatic. No doubt there were dubious US interventions in the 70's but Chile now can indeed be cited as an excellent example, at least, of an effective and reasonably efficient social security system. We should learn from it.

If one reads Obama's books...

If one reads Obama's books and really listens to what he says, they understand his primary philosophy is that of anticolonialism. He has many followers in the media and throuhgout government who also believe that philosophy either as life long believers or as Obama converts.

Anticolonialism is the doctrine that the rich countries of the West got rich by invading, occupying and looting the poor countries of Asia, South America, and Africa.

One of Obama intellectual influences, Frantz Fanon, wrote, "The well-being and progress of Europe have been built up with the sweat and dead bodies of the Negroes, Arabs, Indians, and the yellow races".

Obama transfers that feeling and belief toward America and the rich. He wants the poor to believe the rich got that way by stealing what they had when they weren't looking. You can see this execution of "The Dreams of my Father" in his policies and the clones whom he appoints to positions in the regulatory agencies and judicial appointments.

Obama is in the most powerful position in the world and he is doing all he can to carry out the wishes of every anticolonialist, to include his father, who ever lived. That is why he is trying to tear down what America has stood for since its Founding and he is succeeding to a large extent.

Scratch, you are so right about the retirement ...

Scratch, you are so right about the retirement system of Chile and how much better it is than our Social Security system. Galveston, TX also pulled out of SS when that was still allowed and not the city workers there get at least 3X what they would have got on the SS program.

Back when GW Bush was talking about people being able to invest a small amount of their SS payments themselves some people were interviewed who said they didn't like that idea because they didn't want to have to get involved and rather have the government take care of it. And we wonder about the rich/poor gap?

Exactly Dee he is

Exactly Dee he is dehumanizing his enemy so he can abuse and terrorize them in good conscience. Rich people are bad, they stole it, we need to get even. So childish-and pathological. Funny thing is the wealth disparity has grown exponentially under his policies-he and his buds are getting rich. Likely another misleading lie-oh rich are bad we need to get even-but reality lets give them big bucks. Seems whatever he says he does the opposite. Like the "Contrar" on Little Big Man.

bod, the history of marxism is the history of liars

about Marxism
and college campuses are rife with defenders of marxism
because that is the only place marxism works
well, it also works between the copy and the paste functions
and sites like this are rife with the pasters of the lies of the professorial defenders of marxism
and the only way to defend Marxism is to lie your arse off
because nationalism caused Chile to go bankrupt!
in the '60's, Chile's government spent way too much money
and printed too much money (who else does that? O!)
Chile, like Argentina, started on a free market system, and experienced favorable results
But then the “intelligentsia” took over, and the intelligentsia always goes Marxist
It’s a flaw in humanity
You can’t judge the Nixon administration's actions without accounting for the spread of communism to Latin America
By Russia
And the economic actions of the free world were in response to that
but when Chile adopted free market principles in the 1980's
their economy soared, and the World Bank praised their economic turnaround
and that is the reality
capitalism, especially mixed with Christianity, always works
really, bod, exposure to just a few sentences from a marxist website
doesn't mean you know history
it doesn't even mean you can read

Obama hates everything this country was based on. He believes this country sold its wealth from poor countries especially poor countries of color. His 'Dream from his Father' was the hatred of most white men. Of course his hatred started with his mentor 'Frank' Marshall Davis and was helped to grow with his next mentor the Rev. Wright. "no, no not God bless America but GD America. Obama's mind was poisoned long ago.

Just wondering how and why Nixon's

interference in Chile all those years ago have any impact on what's happening today? And why Bod is so consumed with denigrating the United States when he/she could look to the Soviet Union for examples so much better to make the case that socialism is a (reliably) colossal failure.

So Nixon stuck his nose where it shouldn't have been. Just look at the devastation wrought by the Soviets all over eastern Europe. Look at the Socialist (puppet) governments they established before socialism's enormous weight brought down their entire system.

Our system was established in 1776 and despite the attempts of our resident socialists, still works today. (Without machine gunning our citizens in the streets.) Although not without serious attempts to undermine it.

On the other hand, Bod's dream team, began their great experiment in 1917 and turned belly-up in 1991. (Less than the life span of a typical human.)

Still, the die hard among us are absolutely certain that they can avoid the mistakes made by Russian socialists.

They don't want to "Make the economy scream" they just want one more chance for a run at a "Dictatorship of the Proletariat".
