Checks, balances failing

To quote President Obama at his Cabinet meeting, “We are not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we’re providing Americans the kind of help that they need. I’ve got a pen … and I can use that pen to sign executive orders and take executive actions and administrative actions that move the ball forward ... .”

If anybody had any doubt that we’ve lost our representative republic and ushered in dictatorship under Obama, this statement should have erased that doubt.

Our Founding Fathers created three equal branches of government – executive, legislative and judicial – to check and balance the power among those separate entities. Where is the legislative branch, Congress, on this blatant usurping of its responsibility? When the president and his administration started making instead of executing laws, Congress had the duty to step in and stop them. It appears Congress is ineffective and lacks moral courage.

Additionally, the judicial branch is entrusted to interpret laws and their constitutionality. It is an awesome responsibility; our justices must be impartial and use judicial restraint in deciding cases before them. In recent years, however, many of them are consumed with political correctness and popularity rather than the exercise of judicial prudence. The judicial branch also has failed in its role to check and balance the executive branch.

As the American electorate, we have failed because we have a large segment of disengaged citizens who are willing to sell out our children’s and grandchildren’s future in favor of protecting precious government entitlement programs.

Pay attention, America! If we continue on this course, we will wake up one day and not recognize the greatest country the world has ever known.

Excellent letter.

Excellent letter. Obama is acting like he is what he wishes he were--a dictator. The problem is when we get a situation as we currently have it takes so long to turn it around when you have a corrupt senate leadership and willingly fawning media. The SCOTUS may begin to dent his invincibility with a ruling on his non-recess "recess" appointments to the NLRB. It will see how his appointees vote on the issue.

We have three ways of stopping him: Impeachment. SCOTUS rulings striking down his orders. Term limit in 2016. There is no way we could get an impeachment conviction because of the Senate and public opinion will not support the first black president being kicked out of office. As to the SCOTUS stopping his orders takes time for someone who has standing to bring the cases before it and then the lag time for the ruling. The only other alternative is his term running out in 2016. By the Republicans taking over the Senate in 2014 can slow things down but he still will have a lot of power while he continues with his hubris.

Obama said he believed what MalcomX wrote in his book about the only way to change this country is to tear it down and destroy it's foundations. That is in Obama's book Audacity of Hope if one is wanting the exact quotation and we now know where he got his idea of fundamentally transforming this country and what he meant by it...something the messiah projecting media failed to ask.

Wah, wah, wah...we can't be obstructionist any more! The Republicans in Congress gave in and compromised, and we can't force the government to shut down again. We must all cry because we can't stop the President from doing what he was elected to do.
Republicans created the problems that Obama is fixing, and they can't stand that he's fixing them. What will you do in 2014 when you don't get the Senate, and lose more ground in the House? What will you do in 2016 when a Democrat wins again? I have a suggestion...go over to Moscow, the government there is more suited to what Republicans stand for.

In my opinion

The Judicial Branch has failed us the most!! They are supposed to be non-partisan!! Is there ANYONE who truly believes a single one of them are? They prove this with their own votes! Ruling after ruling, they vote along their party lines!! Yes, even John Roberts!! At least with elected officials, you KNOW their party affiliation, and you know they're going to vote their party lines the majority of the time. But the Judges claim and are supposed to be unbias!! They are suppposed to interpret the law, regardless of party lines!! To believe they do, is a joke!!

We can NOT trust a single person in the federal government today!! THAT, is my opinion!!

Obama takes his little pen

Obama takes his little pen and changes laws, orders the executions of Americans with out due process, bypassed the Congress on appointments, and has the IRS target political opponents. Obama recently issued a ruling that the IRS was correct to target TEA party and conservative groups and confine doing it. Now health care advocate groups, global warming groups etc still get their tax free status because they aren't political!

It's so much fun to read the delusions posted here. Every complaint posted, only counts when it's the other party in office, so I will repeat what was said to me many times while Bush was in office being the "Decider" and Cheney was issuing the decree "deficits don't matter";

MF15, you are correct for the most part, but John Roberts not only did not vote along "party lines" in the decision on ObamaCare, but he also betrayed his oath to "defend and protect the Constitution of the United States" with his totally out of left field decision that the law was a "tax" and therefore constitutional.

That was the kind of political manipulation and contortion that you would normally only expect from a (The end will justify the means.) Democrat.

if you don't like what is done under them, the correct thing to do is contact your Congressional representatives and demand that the laws be changed.

It isn't going to happen, but you can try.

And the next President will use them, and the ones after that, and so on down the line.

It's the damage that they do by contradicting existing laws and regulation and attempting to "rule" by fiat rather than govern according to the Constitution. Obama is envious of dictators in that he wishes he had their power.

All presidents use and will use executive orders.

Only The Great and Powerful OzBama, in my lifetime, has used (many of) them illegally.

A congress with half a backbone, Democrat or Republican would not allow his transgressions to stand, given the extremely dangerous precedent he is setting for future presidents to violate and abrogate constitutional authority.

Instead, our elected representatives choose to "ignore that man behind the curtain."
