Work toward safer society

  • Follow Letters

I propose an uncommon solution for a common dilemma.

Gun violence has saturated our society. Gun violence has become commonplace, and we slowly are becoming desensitized to this violence. Daily we hear about senseless gun violence. My solution may shock some of my fellow citizens. However, I feel that it is a necessary step we must take to provide a safer society.

I propose we create zones in each city. I propose we rank these zones according to the level of violence. I propose we direct extra law enforcement personnel to these zones. I propose we use military and volunteer citizens to enhance manpower. I propose enforcing curfews on young adults. I propose restricting the number of young adults riding together in automobiles.

There needs to be a system set up to catch at-risk youths and direct them to after-school programs. In every neighborhood, enough residents know who the good kids are and who the bad kids are, and which families let their kids run wild in the streets. These kids eventually become a problem to all law-abiding citizens. Why not have a system to report these at-risk kids and get them help before they are involved in the court system? If they are not in school, mandate them to be at school or at work.

Also, work with them, their schools and their parents to get them back in school. No kid should be allowed to stay home or just drop out of school. If that kid does not get an education, he or she may not be able to gain meaningful employment. That kid may become a liability to society. Parents need to invest in their children’s future with their time and knowledge, and assist them getting the best education possible.

I firmly believe that if a child knows better, he or she will do better. As the African-American proverb goes, “Each one, teach one.” Responsible adults should mentor children and direct them into being responsible adults.

In closing, the old cliché still rings true: No one can save us from us but us.

WOW!!

Well David, the first half of your letter sounds as if you want to institute a communist system in our Cities!! Restricting peoples freedoms, because YOU feel it's the best way. Because YOU feel gun violence it out of control, therefore people must lose freedoms. Here is the answer:

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Now, the second half of your letter sounds as if you have been living on MARS!!! It's quite obvious that YOU, haven't been involved in doing any of these things you are suggesting!! Why? Because every suggestion you've made has been in practice for YEARS!!! Ever heard of "Champs" program? That's just one example, to keep my post a little shorter. Bottom line is, every suggestion you just made, has and is still being done, daily!!!

Amazing to me that people like you believe you just came up with a brilliant miracle cure, by doing something that has and is already being done all over the Country, every day!! Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

The KEY, to all this,

The KEY, to all this, including youth and gun violence is PARENTS!!! When parents take responsibility, teaching their children honor and integrity, we will see change!!

Now, do I know how to FORCE individual human beings to be responsible, honorable human beings? No!! You're guess is as good as mine, on how to make people be responsible, respectful, accountable human beings!! I see it EVERY DAY, people who no matter how much training, teaching or counseling you give them, they will NEVER be responsible.

WOW !!!

Just burn the Bill of Rights.

Open the citizenry up all type of abuses and violations of
GOD GIVEN RIGHTS.

God Given Rights, even the founding fathers 250+ years ago
acknowledge were NOT the governments to take away.

I can understand why so many want to kill the concept of GOD
then our very existence would be be shared between ourselves and our rulers. Then just our rulers.

Its a slippery slope. If the government can restrict the freedoms of people in a certain area, they can restrict everyones freedoms. Its the same Constitution that protects the rights of good people, that also protect the rights of criminals.

To the Writer after a reread of your proposal

Its the opening paragraphs, that I have serious issues with.
eg. USING MILITARY

But I have to also ask why not go to the 3 sources of the problem also?

A constant weakening of common Social Morals, Decency Standards and the increasing single parent problem.

Why just focus on just the current popped out kids running wild?
Why not go to the source of the production problems?

Time and time again statistics show illegitimate (born out of wed-lock) children have the highest involvement in criminal activities later in life.

Why not round up every repeated bed hopping baby-mama without a known financially supportive father and fix the problem at the source?
While we are at it. Why not DNA test all males between 13 and 85 and MAKING them responsible for what they breed or pay back the Taxpayers for what they have breed included the related crimes caused by their offspring, which they abandoned? And fix the seeding problem at the other end?

WHY NOT?
Because it gets in the way of a thing called Constitutional Rights.
So as long as we cannot go to the source problem to correct the problem.

There will always be a problem.

It's the people. Canada,

It's the people. Canada, Japan, Denmark, Austria, etc all have low levels of violence and considered safe countries. Why? What is so different about our neighbor to the north-the population is mostly urban but low violence. Perhaps it is our culture.

How about a curfew on ALL

How about a curfew on ALL section 8 housing? I'm thinking 10PM. My way of thinking is this: If your housing is being paid for by the taxpayers, then you are not 100% free on the way your life runs. Old/disabled people in section 8 won't care about a curfew. Young/abled people in section 8 might want to do all they could to be productive and get the hell out of there.

noc noc, not only did you...

noc, noc, not only did you hit the nail on the head, you drove it flush.

As others have said...it is the culture. We will never fix it because of the "feel good" bleeding hearts who got us in this situation in the first place have "cancered" themselves into the crevices and nooks of power throughout our country in such a way that we cannot go back. We are going to have to protect ourselves as best we can through the ballot box and personal protection.

"we are still looking for the fantasy land answer."

Yes, some people's fantasy but I believe we have a REALITY coming. He is the ONLY answer to this problem. Many people will NOT like His answer, just as many don't like answers from other people. But at that time, it won't be a choice!! He WILL fix this and do things righteously!!

myfather15 has the right idea and the ONLY idea to 'fix' our

society. It involves one word that should consist of two people! The word is PARENTS! Parents are parents when they teach their children (not offspring) morals and responsibility for their actions. Real parenting and only real parenting will make for the changes in society that we all want.

Sad, but this will not happen. Many single females are not parents and their places of entitlement in our society fail to teach them anything about parenting and responsibility for bettering themselves. If they don't feel the need to be responsible for anything then how could we expect them to teach that positive mental attitude to their offspring.

Lack of parenting and the explosion of our entitlement socialist government are two of the main reasons that our nation will fail and it is going to be sooner than later.

Sad to think of the mess 'we' have created for our children and grandchildren.

This is 'my' personal apology to all of you!

You guys are getting it
Unpublished

You guys are getting it right, it is the culture. Unfortunately we have a particular segment of our society that will not address it and are being enabled by the left for political favor. We are living in the society that the progressive left has brought us to. They are the only ones who do not see it due to partisan blindness and dogma.

Here's the solution

All unwed, pregnant women who receive or live in a dwelling in which public assistance is received need to be required to provide the name of the father(s). The male(s) whose name(s) has(have) been provided need(s) to: 1) have all of his possessions taken 2) be flogged publicly and 3) sent to a hard labor school, if <17, or a hard labor camp if >17. If the child, once born, is male, then he must be sent to a hard labor school as well once he reaches the age of 6.
If these measures were to be implemented, guys would start thinking 3-4-5 times about going buck-wild sex mode. Then there would be less feed stock for the gun-criminal class.
IN ADDITION to this:
All male children who exhibit antisocial behavior (gratuitous cursing, strongarming, etc) above the age of 5 must remanded to boarding schools run by the U.S. Army. Up at 4:30 AM daily. 2-3 hours supervised labor daily. They must remain there until they can show SUSTAINED: 1) respect for rules 2) respect for other persons 3) respect for authority 4) civilized conflict resolution 5) self control 6) fiscal planning and management. No exceptions. This would include suburban children and children from wealthy households. No exceptions

"Perhaps it is our culture."
You are correct. It is the low morals, entitlement culture that has been created by Great Society, liberals/progressives, democrats and blacks leaders. The so called Great Society has created an environment were over 70% of black babies are born out of wed lock. Who is committing most of the crimes?

LTE

I believe this LTE may be "Tung & cheek", BUT MANY of the LTE writers ideas are good! Conservatives speak of freedoms lost and The Constitution. What about the everyday people who deserve a clean and safe environment in which to live!! Perhaps these people, of which the LTE speaks of NEED to be treated like the criminals that many of them will become!! I am not advocating linch mobs nor any thing close to that, BUT AGAIN, law abiding CITIZENS deserve a more safer environment regardless of which part of the city one goes into!!!!
