A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let’s hope it’s a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas

For weak and for strong

For rich and the poor ones

The road is so long.

– John Lennon,

Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

It is the Christmas season all over the world. As I acknowledge this, I cannot help but wonder: Which country and/or people keep and honor Christmas in the most fitting way?

Is it the United States? Is it because we have more than 7 percent unemployment – in part because so, so many of our Christmas gifts come from other countries? Is it because Republicans cannot agree that all – I repeat, all – Americans need health insurance? Is it because U.S. troops – human beings – are fighting and dying in two countries where it is highly rumored these governments are very corrupt? Is it because, after more than 200 years of being a country, we still have bigotry and prejudice?

If you are like me and don’t like the answers to these questions, it is not too late to make the answers more positive for the sake of our future. We have got to come to some understanding that we cannot continue to purchase almost everything that is made in other countries! We have got to understand that U.S. troops are also moms, dads, sons and daughters.

Our U.S. troops need to be brought home now. As
for the bigotry and the denial of health insurance, I believe these go hand-in-hand. How can a society claim to be civilized when so many millions of our citizens are without the very necessary safety net of health insurance?

Perhaps this Christmas will be the start of better times in our country. If we all truly understand the real meaning of Christmas, we can change things for the better.

Timothy Monroe Bledsoe

North Augusta, S.C.

"Yep, Santa Claus is a Democrat while those leaving out the cookies for him are Republicans."
--------
That's a fun narrative, but data from RPI, Fordham, and Johns Hopkins suggest otherwise --

CEO Political Affiliation and Firms’ Tax Avoidance

"This paper studies the effects of CEOs’ political preferences on corporate tax avoidance. CEOs’ party affiliations are identified by their political donations during election cycles. Using four measures of tax avoidance from the literature (book-to-tax difference, shelter activities, permanent tax avoidance, and total tax avoidance), we find that firms led by Republican CEOs have significantly higher levels of tax avoidance by all measures, as opposed to firms led by CEOs with no obvious political preferences."

It's good to have high self esteem, but it's better to root that estimation in reality.

well, Virginia, here's your Santa Claus

and Virginia, your little friends are wrong.
They have been affected by government control of the media and the public education system and the promise of free things and not free-dom. They do not believe those failures of Caesar they actually see, but what Caesar tells them to see. They give responsibility for their education to Caesar, and their little minds remain ignorant of the
failures of Caesar, and even the atrocities of Caesar throughout history. Caesar exploits simple minds, and sows the seeds of the simple minded with his control over public education. All people, Virginia, want to eradicate bigotry and prejudice. All people want
other people to have access to doctors. All people want other people to be well educated. All people want other people to be employed, and be compensated fairly for their labors.
Man's cognitive abilities are small compared to an economic system that interrelates the choices and needs and abilities of every single person in the country, yet Caesar's bureaucrats think they can manage that which they cannot understand. Caesar's bureaucrat simply removes those attributes in a person that are difficult to predict and control, and thus changes each of us into a paper doll, easily identified and categorized and manipulated.
Yet, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. That within each person which knows that Caesar can give nothing to one that it hasn't taken from another, and so makes a person do what is necessary to become responsible for his own life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness which derives from that independent yearning for freedom also within each of us. By our willingness to sacrifice to gain the skills that can be used to perform the useful functions of society, and our innate generosity, can we give to those in need. We have given unto Caesar what does not belong to Caesar, and even adults have formed
a childlike faith in Caesar. Art and poetry and toil are found useful only in how it promotes Caesar. The eternal good light of man's freedom is in danger of becoming dimmed by the shadow of the great and growing Caesar.
You can have doctors, who have toiled and sacrificed for years to be of use to society, be called mere "health care providers" by Caesar. You can have doctors, who have toiled and sacrificed for years to be of use to society, be told by Caesar how much they can be compensated. And Caesar himself can call them, those who have sacrificed the most, greedy. Caesar has created an unseen world where class wars are fought using conscripted citizen mercenaries on his side, and those mercenaries are called "victims." Caesar creates victims, and makes them hostile to those Caesar calls "privileged." And he does not speak of work or education, and thus victims are in the purest form.
Caesar can force people into housing projects because of a Caesar controlled education, and proclaim that it is because the "rich," or those that sacrifice and work, are greedy.
Yes, Virginia. We all need to push aside the control of Caesar, and Caesar schools, and realize again the wonders in each of us. Humans, prone to bigotry and prejudice and horrible atrocities, somehow also sacrifice and toil for the common good of other humans. Caesar's provide the power to commit atrocities, a free people already has the power to create poetry, romance, charity, and to make tolerable this existence for each and every person.
And Santa Claus will reclaim his proper place among children, and leave his fantasy place among adults. We will "preserve for our children this [America], the last best hope of man on earth, or we'll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness."

Burninater, so your point is

Burninater, so your point is CEO's have no obligation to the share holders and investors to reduce the cost to the business by reducing expenses? YES TAX IS AN EXPENCE. Who profits when expenses are reduced? I do, my 403B is tied up in mutual funds, as are millions of others with retirement account with investments in mutual funds. Of course for a lot of Democrats generosity begains with other peoples money!

When I was 11 or 12 years old

When I was 11 or 12 years old the US dollar was worth more than a silver dollar today a silver dollar costs about $23.00. This has happened over the 60 years. Obama has added over $7 trillion dollars of debt in five year. That debt is going to drop the purchasing power of the dollar and further hurt the poor.

Burn

First, Merry Christmas. Now, if you read your study, you will see that it has nothing to do with greed. The authors conclude that it is politics as it relates to Tax Policy that drives their conclusion. The difference between the CEO's is the highest when there is no personal financial gain.

"The fact that firms with Republican CEOs avoid more taxes even when the CEO's economic incentives to do so are low supports the political preference hypothesis.

Sorry Burn

Burn, you better hope folks don't actually read your link. Which, maybe you were hoping. Because, it actually says that firms led by Dem CEO do use tax policy to increase their income, while as stated above Reps don't.

Burn, the study you stated

Burn, the study you stated your opinion states itself that “individual executives play a significant role in determining tax avoidance that cannot be explained by firm characteristics, but that study could not identify what explains the variation among managers’ individual effects. We believe that individuals’ political beliefs influence their willingness to pay taxes and that the United States provides a particularly good backdrop for this study because there are significant discrepancies among individuals’ beliefs on the size and efficiency of government and on the fairness and effectiveness of wealth distribution.”

So those who did the study believe it has to do with political beliefs but because this body of literature is relatively young, there is no universally accepted measure of tax avoidance. (i.e. what you are claiming cannot be actually proven, as yet. So this is a fairly new study and it is their opinion and the test material they used leans that way but not all tax avoidance areas were used, only two of them)

In other words it needs to be studied more. As with most political studies, who you question or use for test data, the views of whom do the testing, and their beliefs, numbers and hypothesizes can be construed to lean in one favor or the other.

So we have almost six million

So we have almost six million lose their insurance and millions more reduced to part time because of the lefts insistence that everyone was to buy a defective product called Obama care. You all on the left point out your great humanity at the number receiving govt assistance, as to show how you are all so noble. We conservatives pride our selves as to reducing these numbers, that is the mark of charity and compassion, through jobs. And dear Tim, it is the very under reported number of 7 percent that is the result of your so called compassion and all of the other reckless spending and waste that has been perfected under Obumler. From reckless executive orders handicapping business to obumler care, to a nanny state that intrudes to every facet of our lives, it all costs money, the taxes of producing Americans. So quit this self slapping of ones own back about the lefts compassion, there is none, but it is their desire for total control. Wake up, we conservatives are not your problem, look in the mirror.

Do you mean like this year, and last year, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before,.......and nothing changes? So much for prayer. Just look up the STEP study from April 2005(?) and you'll see that science ( science....oooh, you're not scared of that, are you?) proves prayer to be worthless.

Burninater wrote "It is good to have high self esteem, but it is better to root that estimation in reality ". Perhaps some one should send that to the current occupant of the White House. Obama is Minimally experianced and is trying to take over 1/5 th of the American economy! In the middle of screwing up the whole process i.e. screwed up web site, miss representation of costs, lies and a total loss of control of the process Captain Obvious discovers insurance is complicated and that government agencies don't always work well. The bright side is Barbara Walters realiizes he isn't the messiah she is waiting for!

"How can a society claim to be civilized when so many millions of our citizens are without the very necessary safety net of health insurance?"

You might want to take that up with the President, since BECAUSE of the ACA, 6,000,000 people have lost their insurance.

Unfortunately, most of us, noticeably Burn, have our own version of reality. And any of us (repeat, any of us) can find validation of our perceived reality online by cherry picking from a myriad of available websites.

It's pathetic, really.
