A Buckeye-opening win

  • Follow Letters

The college football world owes a great debt of gratitude to Michigan State University for recently revealing the previously overrated ranking of Ohio State University. The then-No.-2-ranked Buckeyes had not played a single top-10 team, and only a couple of teams that were even ranked.

Ohio State has a great football tradition. It has good players and a great coach. Perhaps because of that, pollsters tend to rank them higher than they deserve to be.

There must be at least six or eight other teams – including Auburn University, the University of Alabama, the University of South Carolina, the University of Missouri and Michigan State University – who far better deserve the privilege of playing Florida State University for the national championship.

Thank you, Michigan State, for proving this!

The letter writer is right on track...

The letter writer is right on track. Maybe, next year's playoff system will go further toward identifying the best team in college football. I'm sure some would like to see eight or 16 teams in the playoffs but right now we'll have to take what we've got.

It's been kind of laughable that the college presidents were against a playoff system because they didn't want the players to miss more academic classes.

I was rooting for FSU to lose so Bama would face Auburn in the national championship game. The great thing about college football is the optimism for your team next year no matter how badly they finished this year.

Yes Ohio state lost but #1 ranked Alabama lost as well. So did Auburn and nearly every division 1 school as well. FSU was the only major school left standing. Whether OSU deserved to be #2 isn't any more of a stretch than any other school being ranked and getting beat. Your dislike for OSU is showing through and showing your bias.

So was ESPN and the BCS. They did everything in their power to make sure an SEC team was in. They were really hoping for 2. When you have a big financial stake in one of the conferences, you for dang sure make sure that conference is in the championship game every year. They've done their job very well.

Oh-ho State

Finally someone realizes that the big 10 flops when compared to the SEC. Every year teams like Oh-ho State and Mitchigan are always rated within the top 20........Why,, because back in the 60's and 70's the cloud of dust and 3 yards was the norm as teams like Georgia, SC and the rest of the schools could not compete. NOW SEC dominates as well as the ACC. I take my hats off to Michigan State, as they proved they were the better team... BUT, the news media was sadden when another great SEC team beat Alabama, thus paving the way for possibly the 7straight national championship for the SEC......BUT we can all rejoice too when and if the right Clemson team shows up,, Go Tigers....

It's not jealously. You're

It's not jealously. You're obviously blinded by the bias towards the SEC. They always start rated at the top. Even if they lose, it's "against an SEC team" so they drop no more than a point or two. Look at UGA. 4 loses and they're still #20 in some polls? What do they have to have to have, a losing season to knock them out of the running? Just look at the BCS website. Same design, same everything, same connection as ESPN, and links to the ESPN website? The number 2 teams drops to #7 with 1 loss, while Auburn, with one loss, that one one game with a lucky catch, and one game with a lucky runback on a field goal goes to the title game. Alabama loses a game and drops to #4 behind 2 undefeated and the team that beat them. Give me a freakin ' break. In the 4 game playoff they'll try to have at least 3 SEC teams unless there's undefeated teams that they just can't kick out. 2 4 loss teams in the top 25? What a joke. Put a 32 team playoff and let them prove it instead of always being given a gimme. I'm sure winning the bowl games where I believe all but Auburn plays teams that are ranked way below them, or not ranked at all will show just how great a conference they are. Sure. Money talks and ESPN has the money.

Bod, as I said your jealousy of the SEC is showing. UGA is not very good but they beat Ga tech once again.
