Editorial was right-wing bile

  • Follow Letters

Regarding the full-page editorial in the Dec. 1 newspaper (“A republic in name only?”): I recently moved here and am shocked at the constant vitriol and hatred spewed forth in The Augusta Chronicle by the editorial staff and columnists against the president of this country. It evidences the covert racism of those who are offended by how this black man thinks he can be president of their country, and by those Republicans who actually are the ones who “openly punish political enemies and reward political friends.”

The whole piece appears to be straight off the Fox “News” Channel, and I believe it is filled with lies, half-truths and misstatements. Fox News is considered by many in this country to be a joke that is ridiculed more every day by anyone who actually realizes Fox does everything it can to manipulate viewers by spreading fear and misinformation.

As to the content of the editorial: You or Fox News neglected to mention that the activities by the National Security Agency commenced long before President Obama took office, or that many Republicans in Congress have done everything in their power to block any and all legislation backed by the “upstart” president or the Democrats.

And regarding Obamacare: Funny that it has gone well in states that set up their state exchanges, compared to the states that opted out in an attempt to make the legislation fail – despite the impact on the residents of their states who need insurance.

So give your opinion, but try to be a little honest and fair in the process.

Marjorie McNeil

Honesty and fairness?

I suppose I should be polite and welcome you to the area, Ma'am. Then, I suppose I should extend sympathy for you having received the sentence to abide in this area; I do hope your sentence is short.
Please, Ma'am, could you tell me the whole purpose of an editorial in a country where there is freedom of the press? Is it not to stimulate the reader to THINK? I don't believe the Editorial Staff at the Chronicle have the responsibility or the power to dictate what we, the readers, think. If we disagree with their opinion, we have two choices: Skip the piece, or vent to the public in the form of a letter - which you have done. The very fact that your letter was published indicates their willingness to print a different opinion, albeit warped and incorrect.
Again, welcome to the area, and I'm sure that you and Mr. Greenbaum will become very good friends. Oh, I almost forgot. Did you know that the same mode of transportation that brought you to our area could, most likely, take you back from whence you came? Just asking...

Make Us A Non Racist List We Can Comment On

Nothing like moving to an area and letting everyone know how you feel right off the bat. Ms. McNeil, tell you what, make us a list of subjects concerning the Obama administration that we are allowed to comment on without being considered racist by you.

As far as Obamacare, 26% of those signing up are going on Medicaid which will be funded by the federal government for 3 years and then the federal contributions will begin to decrease down to nothing. With state budgets already tightly pressed, may I ask who will pay for these new Medicaid patients without being called a racist?

i see another one of Obummer's cheerleaders hit the print. Big surprise. As soon as you dare criticize their boy, the first word that comes out of their mouths is 'racist!' i don't know how we are being racist when the man is half and half. what race is he that we are against? furthermore, i see ole margie subscribes to the usual demonicrank mind-set of 'everything on fox news is false'. well, i don't watch fox news. i don't watch ANY news on tv b/c all they talk about is sickening politics 24/7. and all you hear are lies on ALL the shows, not just the select ones the demonicranks are against. i thought the editorial about the state of our country was pretty spot on, and that's just through making observations on the state of things i see around me on a daily basis. i'm pretty sure the folks working on the editorial staff have their own brains and used them and their common sense to write that article. they opened their eyes and saw the truth: this administration is a big fat fiasco, full of self-serving politicos who lie simply b/c their mouths are moving.
lil ole margie also doesn't get that a newspaper is there to print opinions and i'm like the guy that wrote above: you don't like their opinion, don't read it. why don't you subscribe to a nice far left liberal mag, margie, and read your daily lies out of those rags, if you don't like papers that do not print your sacred demonicrank opinion. as far as i can tell, all the demonicranks do is spout diarrhea and a motherlode of it. margie, you don't like it here, take the above writer's advice and move to a nice, safe little demonicrank area where you are all of 'one mindset, one thought, one purpose', that, apparently being a state of socialism or communism in this country, where the gubmint will be up your arse 24/7/365 and you will never have to make another decision about your life, ever.
and ain't it funny how all these liberal people, back when republicans prez' were in the office, spewed nothing but vitriole and hatred against those men? of course, considering that most liberals have a brain resembling a sieve, they can't remember that far back.

Well seems some of those who

Well seems some of those who thought they could keep their health care can't, even in states that are 100% behind Obama Care. I watched Fox News last night and found out that up to 30% of those that signed up on the exchanges and thought they had insurance don't. Bet you didn't find out about that on MSNBC. That is the next piece of fecal matter that is going to hit the oscillating rotater. Should happen around Mid Jan 1st of February, even in states that signed up for Medicaid expansion and set up their own exchanges. Welcome to the south. I don't dislike Obama because he is black (some of my best friends are black), I dislike like him because he lies all the time!

you forgot to mention that O is black

oh, wait, you did, but only half a sentence?
is that covert racism?
you think we're all against O because he is black
and our newspaper actually feels free to disagree with him in print
because he is black
and you only give his blackness one half of one sentence
in your complete diatribe?
after all your forefathers went through to try and end racism
you think it is only worth one half of one sentence?
you get one letter a month, and you give racism
one half of one sentence
well, that seems racist to me
perhaps thou doth protest too little, me thinks?

No suprise here!!

Leftists have ALWAYS despised the opposition being able to speak out!! They have always branded them, or discredited them; usually right before they shut them up!!

Mussilini, Hitler, Lenin, Stalin; all these men took over the print so nothing bad could be said about their governments!!

I promise you, OUR leftists would do the same, IF THEY COULD!!

Really?

"or that many Republicans in Congress have done everything in their power to block any and all legislation backed by the “upstart” president or the Democrats."

When referring to your President, which you praise so much; why didn't you at least capitalize the first letter? This would be a show of respect.

Now, moving on. "Upstart"? Man's been in office 5 years, and you're saying he is upstart? Is that a sign of true intentions? That people like you WANT Him to continue on in the Presidency after 8 years?

ALSO; you mean to tell me republicans are doing the same thing democrats did in 1957?

As you probably know, in 1957 Dwight Eisenhower (Republican) tried to pass a CIVIL RIGHTS BILL, which many said was more expansive than the Civil Rights Bill of 1964.

Now, one of the MANY democrats that voted it DOWN, was none other than LBJ. Then miraculously, LBJ and the democrats, passed a Civil Rights Bill under HIS administration. Wonder why they didn't pass it in 1957?

Because there was NO WAY they were going to pass such magnificent legislation while a REPUBLICAN was in office. There is NO WAY they could allow republicans to take credit for this!! So many people actually SUFFERED because democrats wanted CREDIT for passing Civil Rights. They suffered for 7 years because of political games!!

Politics anyone?? Now, before someone says I'm being hypocritical, by justifying bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior. I AM NOT justifying these political games!! I DESPISE partisan politics, because WE THE PEOPLE are the ones who get screw many times.

But, in the case of the affordable care act, I believe republicans are actually trying to save the people from a DISASTER.

Who is the true racist?

"It evidences the covert racism of those who are offended by how this black man thinks he can be president of their country, and by those Republicans who actually are the ones who “openly punish political enemies and reward political friends.”

This does nothing but show who the true racist is!! Because it shows who THINKS with race on their mind, all the time!! When I criticize someone, their race NEVER comes to my mind!! Their ACTIONS, do!!! But when YOU see someone criticizing this man, you automatically think of his RACE, which means you think with RACE all the time. Now, who is the true racist?

I do believe Christ taught us "By their fruits, ye shall know them". Which means by what they produce (what they yield) or their actions!! I don't believe Christ ever said, by their RACE, ye shall know them!! But that appears to be YOUR thought pattern!!

Also, I see you capitalized "Republicans" and neglected to capitalize "president". Might want to think about that in future letters. He is the President of the United States and the OFFICE, deserves that respect.

Wow

For the life of me, I can't figure out what makes people like this think the way they do! Everything that doesn't go their way is considered racist? I'm sick of hearing it already, as I'm sure all decent people in this country are, who work for a living and love their country.

Ms McNeil, I don't like what his white half is doing either.

The man is totally unqualified for the job. If you would take off your "blacken" scales you would see he has had no leadership experience, never held a full time job, and has been marinading in the leftist soup all his life.

His foreign policy has been a disaster and those who were our friends don't trust us anymore and those who were our enemies don't fear or respect us as they used too.

He has divided the country along racial lines anytime since the
60's and gone out of his way to demonize in the way of Alinsky all who disagree with him.

He has violated his oath of office in selectively enforcing laws by not enforcing those he disagrees with.

He is an empty suit who has been elected by black pride and white guilt and not by demonstrated capability.

Could you please tell me two things he has done successfully in his five years? It can't be the economy because it has wallowed in recession territory longer than any economic time since the Great Depression which lasted longer than any other in history because he, like Obama, followed the same economic philosophy of Keynes.

I suggest you watch Fox News and read some blogs such as American Thinker (I know it's a difficult word for the left to apply), Town Hall, and American Spectator as a start of educating yourself to the perils of this man.

By the way, if so many of us are racists, why would we have support Herman Cain for President and many of us support Dr. Ben Carson....hhhuummmmm?

I see the unfounded race card was thrown in the first paragraph of the letter. I am so tired of being called a racist whenever I give specific policies I am opposed to and why I'm opposed to them. Maybe from now on, any time a liberal criticizes someone for any reason, we should just call them racists.

Really Marg??

"And regarding Obamacare: Funny that it has gone well in states that set up their state exchanges" How about Oregon, that bastion of liberalism?
"Oregon's state-run Obamacare exchange still isn't working more than two months after its scheduled launch, and the state on Monday said a paltry 219 people have filed paper applications for private health insurance so far." You probably need to watch Fox News a little more. Your sources are letting you down.

Real Medicaid contributions

If you'd like the real numbers? Federal contributions to the Medicaid expansion will be 100% until 2017 when it will drop to 95%. In 2020, it will drop to 90% and remain at that level. It never drops below 90%. That's the law in the ACA. Facts are facts.

Bod,

Ten percent of millions of taxpayer money is a lot of money that could have been spent on something better or not spent at all...the latter being the best option. Once again it's the federal drug dealer drawing in more addicts to the heroin of the public largess.

The entire obamacare is destroying the greatest medical system in the history of the world...and that is using every measure of care and innnovation.

Honest and fair-in context of

Honest and fair-in context of the President of the US lying for four years. The only person who mentioned he is black is you-you must be a racist. It isn't the color of his skin (why would any logical person think that if not a racist) but his ideology. Good grief. Fox news is the number one channel so a few dissenters are expected, but more people think MSNBC is a joke-and it works by fear, misinformation., and ad hominem like with Palin. I think it the Obama administration that keeps using fear and misinformation to win elections and manipulate the masses. So we see you have no argument but ad hominem attacks. Why not discuss the issues-I know Dem can't discuss issue or policy because all they know is lies, fear, misinformation.

Interesting that the Chronicle prints 1 "pro-Obama" letter with 2 "anti-Obama" letters. Let me quote directly from the Chronicles very own "The law of letter" editorial from Friday, August 16, 2013. I quote: "We don't play up one side or play down another. We don't rig the discussion in any way" AND "And, while we have regulars, we don't play favorites." Uh, yea, ok Chronicle. I'm going to make a guess here - letter writers Chris Zets and Richard Wilson are Bible thumpers. And by the way, did you notice the sarcastic, "anti-Obama" cartoon directly to the left of the letters.

Addendum;
1.) I voted for Obama in 2008.
2.) I did NOT vote for Obama in 2012 - nor did I vote for Romney.
3.) I am no fan of Obama myself.

The only thing the Chronicle prints more of than anti-Obama cartoons is religious letters. "Right wing bile"......man, the Chronicle must have had to go to Doctor's Hospital to get a booster shot of adrenaline or testosterone to print that!

And yet it's not the

And yet it's not the government setting up the websites. It's private contractors. Just like private contractors were used in Iraq and double, triple, and quadruple charged the taxpayers, screwed up constantly, "lost" billions of dollars, and we went happily right on along paying them and running up the tally without hardly a peep from the right wingers. Now, private contractors are failing to get the job done (the same private sector that should run the health care industry?) and it's the fault of the government and the right is up in arms. Just like "deficits didn't matter" until there was an election and the right wingers lost, and filibusters should only be used in extraordinary circumstances until the GOP had half of the filibusters since the founding of the country in 5 years under one President. The same GOP that met and agreed to block anything and everything this President did even before he was inaugurated. The GOP that is party over people and party over the country. The GOP that has shifted so far to the right that over the top nutcase conspiracy theories are standard operating procedure. The party that wastes time voting 50+ times on the same issue that they know will fail. The party that lets a handful of ego driven ideologues shut down the country in pursuit of their zealotry. The almighty and all knowing private sector failed. Where is Issa and his kangaroo courts to grill them? Where is the outrage? Why is the GOP not on tv hounding the failure of the blessed private sector? That wouldn't fit the propaganda message. That would actually place the blame on the people who failed. It also might hit some campaign donors. We'll never see it.
