So just call it 'Romneycare'

  • Follow Letters

President Obama decided we couldn’t wait to address the problem of our broken health-care system, one consuming more and more of our total revenue, costing almost twice per person as in every other developed country in the world, with its cost rising faster than the rate of inflation. It had to aim to serve everyone.

Gov. Mitt Romney had gotten Massachusetts to adopt a system based on commercial insurers that was running successfully. Washington decided to copy that as the basis for the Affordable Care Act.

Massachusetts’ citizens love it, and the state has had no problem in switching to Affordable Care. This is true for many states, even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Kentucky. Tellingly, these states want the plan to succeed.

Hearing the pounding chant from the Republican Party and its supporters that Obamacare is a “train wreck” waiting to happen, and with Sen. McConnell saying that Affordable Care will be unworkable, I ask: Whatever happened to facts and truth?

The rant is not because they think it will fail, but that it will succeed, never to be abandoned.

To cover everyone, subsidies are needed for the poorest. You may notice that many comparisons fail to include the subsidies in their analyses, so they badly, probably, deliberately overstate the cost.

It’s socialistic, but so were Medicare and Medicaid, which are almost universally popular. They have been far better managed than for-profit health insurance companies. It’s not even close.

On a related point, acts by a number of Republican states opting out of Medicaid expansion will leave millions of their poorest next January without access to any health care other than emergency rooms. It’s costly, cruel and deadly in the extreme, but it will save those states hardly a dime. This includes Georgia and South Carolina. We must not forget this at the next election.

Let’s give Romney his due and nickname it “Romneycare.”

Victor J. Reilly

Aiken, S.C.

Well put. I have, so far, sailed through the website for the ACA without the slightest hitch. For the first time in almost ten years, I will have a Gold plan, with a $1000 deductible that will cost less than $200 a month. Pooh pooh on the nay-sayers, it's all sour grapes.

LOL, Mr Reilly, Really? The

LOL, Mr Reilly, Really? The biggest difference between Obama care (the Affordable Care act as Democrats like to call it NOW) is that Romney actually had some executive experience and had a clue as to what he was doing! Take for example the women from Washington who had her letter read in the Rose Garden. She THOUGHT she could by insurance for $167/ month, turns out to be false, she still can't afford health insurance, and now she gets to be fined... but she still supports Obama..go figure... Obama told folks on a phone call that 100 million had signed up , Obama is the image of incompetence! The other issue is the 10th amendment, but the constitution never has been a stumbling to Obama has it? The other difference is that President Obama repeatedly LIED to the American people about Obama Care (the affordable Care act for the Democrats that have read the latest talking points.). YOU CAN KEEP YOUR INSURANCE ,PERIOD!! YOU CAN KEEP YOUR DOCTOR PERIOD!!!! What part of lying do you like Mr. Reilly? Can I sell you beach front property or a used car? The last problem is that it is not a financially sound program and doesn't take from those who have but takes from those WHO DON'T have. College students are seeing their insurance go up from $50.00/ semester to $1,800.00/year. Other than those little facts it is exactly like Romney Care Mr. Reilly. I really don't want to interfere with your delusions!

Step back, take a deep breath

Step back, take a deep breath and realize that Romney care on the national level is here to stay. Why do Republicans keep coming down on the wrong side of history. Despite all its negatives, the positives far out weigh. We wouldn't have known the Republicans were left out had they not keep telling us that. The president ran an end around because they said before he was even sworn in that if he for for something they would be against. They chose not to be involved and now they are red faced. The president is too modest and humble. If I were he, I would talk trash everyday, the way he has been treated. The history books will report this to the dismay of the Republicans. The Republicans even got mad because Cristie was shown with the president. Glad Cristie is his own man and is not answerable to the Tea crowd mob of discontents. Have a blessed day.

Gold plan, with a $1000 deductible

Let's see!! I had a employer plan that cost me about $150 a month with a $250 deductable. Thanks to Obamacare that deductable has now gone to $500, the co pays have increased and the cost has soared to $450 a month. Yes, those of you singing Obama/Reid/Pelosi praises will pay for it as you near retirement age, if you live long enough to recieve your death counseling! Excuse me, "End of Life" counseling. What has this government run that actually worked? Let's see, they confiscated a brothel and tried to run it and went bankrupt, they've raided and robbed social security which they required almost everyone who worked for a living to pay into, but give it away to any alien or Welfare recipient who applies so that there won't be enough for the people who actually paid the money. If our government were a bank or corporation every person in Congress and the White House would be in a federal prison. Obamacare my big old butt!!! Don't try to spin this on Romney, his plan works, this one never will and will cost you, your children and all of your descendants. This country was born over taxation without representation and looks like that will be it's demise!!!!

This is to funny ! Obama

This is to funny ! Obama care( or The Affordable Care act, or Romney care what ever the Dems are calling this piece of Rotten fish garbage today) is completely owned by them! And yes it is going away because over 4 million people so far have lost their insurance and when the employer mandate hits up to 90 million will lose their insurance. Let me ask a few questions . If it is so wonderful why did Congress get a special deal? If it is good enough for us why not them? If it is so great why switch from calling it Obama care to calling it The Affordable care act or , as the letter writer does , Romney care?

Car the millions who lost

Car the millions who lost their insurance and now pay more isn't the story or a concern for the progressive-no it is the few thousands who now have insurance. Talk about blinded by ideology. If they had to kill a million insured people to insure one person who hasn't insurance they would gladly do so. They call it "fairness".

Sorry to hear you have been unable to provide for yourself and your family in the land of opportunity (America) and now must rely on others to provide you with food, shelter and health insurance. it sounds like you are quite happy with your inability to provide for yourself and are more than willing to require others to support you. No need to thank us.

Let's look at some facts.

Romneycare has increased the number of visits to emergency rooms and have resulted in some ERs closing down.
Romneycare is now the largest portion of the MA budget...somewhere around 40%.

As for Kentucky's program. It is good only in KY. Let's say SC had the KY program and you lived in North Augusta. Let's further stipulate you had medical treatments over at University Hospital. Well, lo and behold, your wonderful medical coverage would not pay for your treatments. Great, ain't it?

Yes Medicare and Medicaid are socialistic. What have they done for us? Help bloat the federal budget and addict many people to the heroin of the government...entitlements paid by other people's money (OPM).

The substities are nothing more than a redistribution from the producers to the moochers. The manna of the liberals.

The Fall of ObamaCare ! By October of 2014 when 100 million "working" Americans who have employer provided health insurance began to get cancellation notices and are forced onto the Obamacare exchanges only to learn that "they MUST pay MORE so others (like copperhead) can pay less will return the control of our government to the conservatives to fix the Big mess created by the marxist.

The Dems have it planned that

The Dems have it planned that the sticker shock and millions more screwed on their health care won't occur till after the elections. Too late-no recalls like Wisconsin. We watched the fascist Dems in the Senate with their power grab-after watching Biden Bork a man for ideology alone and Dems filibuster forever-they act all indignant with this nuclear option. We now have little doubt that progressives and Dems are liars, thieves, and fascists who want a dictatorship. The culture of corruption of the Obama administration is beyond measure. We now know they stole the last election by corruption and illegal activity and lying about everything, lied about the IRS, Fast and furious, Benghazi, etc. The most corrupt administration in history.

A woman in a hot air ballon realized she was lost. She happened to see a man below in a boat below and shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I do not know where I am."
The man consulted his GPS and replied, "You are in a hot air ballon about thirty feet above ground elevation and at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be Republican."

"I am,"replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," she answered, "everything you told me is technically correct but I have no idea what to do with your information and I'm still lost. Frankly you have not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be democrat."

"I am, how did you know?" She replied.

"Well," said the man, " you don't know where you are, or where you are going. You seem to have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep and you expect me to solve the problem. You are in exactly the same position you were in before we meet, but somehow, now it's my fault.

There is no comparison to

There is no comparison to Romneycare and Obamacare. Romneycare did not double and triple the rates of middle class working people's health insurance policies. Romneycare did not drive doctor's and hospitals to not accept the insurance. Romneycare did not subsidize as large a percentage of the population and break the back of the rest to pay for it. Romneycare did not give the government the power to decide who would get what kind of care and procedures based on the budget that day. Romneycare did not require political exemptions and delays in order to win elections. Romneycare did not cause 100 million people to LOSE their insurance that they like, the doctors that they like, and the hospitals that they like. Romneycare did not require implementation delays because it was failing and the elections were coming nor did it require the nuclear option in the Senate in order to stack the federal courts to protect the president that keeps manipulating the law to win elections.

There is ZERO comparison between Romneycare and Obamacare. One apparently worked pretty well and the other is a rolling failure and is destroying our economy, health care, and now our democracy.

The "nuclear option" is just one of the steps Obama is able to

take to get as close as possible to dictatorship. The key reason for this is to entrench ultra-liberal judges into the judicial system and his legacy will carry on for decades. As Mark Levin has pointed out so well in his latest book, their should be term limits on judges and justicies. If the Founders had any idea that the Judiciary Branch would have become so powerful (they thought it would be the weakest of the three) they would have put term limits on judges.

Obama wants this because of his frustration that he can't get three liberals on the Fourth Circuit. One of whom is extremely pro-abortion and another is very anti-Second Amendment. Currently that court is short three judges and has had a balance of Republican and Democratic appointments for a number of years. This shortage has not caused any problems because of a light case load.

The Fourth Circuit is important for two reasons. The first is it hears nearly all the cases brought against and by the federal agencies such as the EPA, Labor Department, FDA, etc. Second, it is seen as a stepping stone to the Supreme Court in many cases.

The Dems are going to pay dearly for this in ways they can't begin to imagine. This is a classic of example, and there are more coming every day, of politicians looking only at the short term rather than the long term impact on their decisions.

This is just one of the ways Obama had in mind when he said, "We are going to fundamental change America."

We have already heard some weak-kneed Republicans, Sen Flake of AZ being one, saying they hope the Republicans would retaliate when they gained power in the Senate again. Some surgeon could become wealthy by selling backbone implants to Republicans.
