Former ASU gets short shrift

  • Follow Letters

Regarding the Nov. 4 article about parking fees (“Parking fee riles students”): It’s another slap in the face of our liberal arts university now termed the “Summerville Campus” of Georgia Regents University. While substantial thought and money is being poured into the medical side – which is very good – why is there little mention of our former Augusta State University?

Because elimination of anything about Augusta that the

West Coast carpetbagger thinks is "uncool" should not be mentioned but should be eliminated. Eradicating of any thing historical in the Old South must go. He's sort of the General Sherman from the West Coast installed by Copperhead-like members of the Board of Regents.

Everyone knew that ASU would

Everyone knew that ASU would get the shaft on this Deal. Likely two great schools will suffer for the venture. I note Kennesaw State and S. Polytechnic U are planned to be fused and they are raising holy hell too. Fusing the schools is problematic as these two are very different too. Lessons to be learned-never put your heart and soul and build a school (that the state can then change) and don't bother with tenure (cause you maybe tenured in one school and end up in a completely new school as many have found here).

This is all about Azziz

This is all about Azziz building a large school-not the interest of georgia students and their needs. The trend to end the smaller schools will force kids to schools in other states because all the smaller schools will be gone in georgia so less choice. Smaller schools definitely serve a niche and purpose in Georgia. The progressive way is always less choices and less freedom.

Why

Letter writer Michael Moore asks:

. . . why is there little mention of our former Augusta State University?

Well, I'll give you an analogy — Do you remember a company called Jones Intercable? It was once the largest cable company in town. In fact, for many it was the only cable company in town. But it got swallowed up into a company called Comcast.

You don't hear about ASU because ASU no longer exists. There is no room for civic pride, for college spirit, for heritage in the mind of Azziz.
