'Affordable' care? Really?

  • Follow Letters

My health plan was not canceled, but increased from $580 per month to $1,200 per month. Imagine my outrage when I received that letter recently. This plan is on my wife and I, each with a $5,000 deductible, plus $500 deductibles on prescriptions.

I went online to examine the Affordable Care Act plan (Obamacare) – no problem getting there – and applied for coverage. Results were $1,200 to $1,400 with an $8,000 deductible! Looks like insurance companies are raising rates to match the government’s.

I have two questions: How can the government force me to pay $300 per week for coverage when I cannot afford it? Why is this called the Affordable Care Act?

Obama and his minions couldn't care less about your

health insurance being affordable. They are after the power to control you and the rest of us.

They have had opportunities to correct some of the problems and have refused each time.

Now they are trying to figure a way to keep people from self insuring themselves and make them become part of the obamacare.

They are after "single payer" which is nothing more than taxpayer health care. Once they have that they control everything about one's health and also have access to all medical and financial record to use as they see fit.

Many of the people manning the exchanges are former ACORN members and you remember how "trustworthy" and "honest" they were. There are some videos out there showing they are up to their same tricks with obamacare.

The number 50,000 is being thrown out there as the number of people signed up for obamacare. Guess the number of "navigators? If you say "50,000" you get a gold star. Coincidence? Huummmm

I watched the news last

I watched the news last night. Jay Carney the President's spokesman is saying that Obama is going to "fix" the people with independent insurance coverage for those who lost it by subsidizing their health insurance. Dianne Feinstein is talking about rewriting portions of Obama care to allow people to keep their insurance. Two problems with both of these solutions is that the higher prices for health insurance is EXACTLY what Obama Care was DESIGNED TO DO. The excess money from healthy people is going to go to subsidizes the policies of older less healthy people. By subsidizing those that have lost their policies you are losing that money to pay for the sicker folks and this whole thing unravels. The policies that Dianne Feinstein wants to allow people to keep are illegal to sell. They are gone. If they are allowed to be reinstated they have to go through state insurance regulators etc to be approved. This whole process is going to take months. Neither of these solutions is workable.

Not as bad as many

We lucked out, AETNA did not drop my wife or me.

My Medicare and supplemental AETNA plan dropped $38 while the wife's bill went up $312 and her deductible will increase to $2,500.00, up from $1,750.

So Far the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare has not helped and has been anything but Affordable.

Let's not forget how Obama and his legal people and the IRS

are tramping on the religious freedom of many organizations and people by requiring them to provide any and all FDA approved contraception and sterilization devices and procedures. This includes Catholic charities who have businesses they use to make money to support their missions.

The federal government is telling all these organizations plus those such as Hobby Lobby who believe providing contraception is against their religious beliefs, that is you make a profit you can not follow your religious beliefs when it comes to running your enterprise.

There are over 70 cases on this issue in the federal courts and it's working its way to the Supreme Court.

Obama is doing things to this country that communists could imagined only when they were snookered full of vodka. If the old ones were still alive they would have Obama's picture over their fireplaces.

"I have two questions:....

....How can the government force me to pay $300 per week for coverage when I cannot afford it? Why is this called the Affordable Care Act?"

Question 1....According to the Supreme Court, they can do it if they call it a "tax." Apparently, there is no limit to the amount they can "tax" you for health care or, assumedly, anything else. Lots of people wonder how Chief Justice Roberts (who was thought to be a Conservative) could ever have come up with such twisted logic to appease the Obama Administration's plans to destroy America. Then the NSA spying news arose and some think he was blackmailed into supporting it. I guess we'll have to wait for the book to come out. Short answer....we no longer have a "government of the people, by the people, and for the people."

Question 2....Congress has a habit of naming legislation something isn't necessarily descriptive of their real intentions, but something whose name would be hard for a congressman to vote against. Who doesn't love "clean air?" Who could hate the "Farm Bill?"How could you vote against the "Common Sense Legal Reforms Act?" How could you explain to your constituents how you voted against "safe schools," or the "Healthy Meals For Healthy Americans Act?"

It's a game. They try to confuse and trick the voters. We're stupid, they're smart.

Odd thing is.....we must be happy with it. We keep electing them.

Two points:

First, people talk about getting a "subsidy" as though it is some type of fairy dust that falls from the heavens. It is tax payer money taken at the threat of a gun by the government and given to someone else. The government has only that money it confiscates from the current producers and those yet to be born.

Secondly, Obama said basically that we need to change the health insurance system because some people have "crappy" plans and we have 40 million people without insurance. Well, the Congressional Budget Office says even if obamacare were fully implemented there would still be over 30 million people without insurance ten years for now. So, once again you see it's about controlling our lives...not insurance coverage.

Just A Reminder...

About a month ago, a relatively small group of Republican politicians gave one last burst of energy to the effort to stop, or at least delay, implementation of the "Affordable Care Act." They failed.

Why did they fail? They failed because they could not get sufficient support from self-acclaimed "Conservatives" who obviously weren't Conservative enough, brave enough, bright enough, principled enough (you name it) to support their efforts. They wanted to stop it. They did not want to put the American people through the misery and pain that would be inflicted upon them by the implementation of Obamacare. They failed not because they were wrong, but rather because their fellow Conservatives refused to support the effort and chose, instead, to support the Democrats. Heck, some even called these people names, mocked and ridiculed them for trying to save America from what was about to happen.

Now, it's happening. And some of those very people who mocked and ridiculed Senator Cruz and others who fought for what was right for America are watching as their detractors now flock to support what they fought against just one month ago.

If only they had come to realize this 12 months ago, we could have at least been trying to dig our butts out of the load this man and the democraps dumped on us for the past 4 years. As a conservative I am

As a conservative I am thankful to God that Roberts ruled as he did and Cruz failed! Why? Because if Roberts ruled against Obama care the left would SCREAM that evil conservatives ROBBED poor people of health insurance and Obama and the would be screwing about this injustice. Cruz and the Republicans can now say this is big liberal government, that we tried to stop at it's finest, and no the tooth paste doesn't go back in the tube, sorry Dianne Feinstein and all you other jerks. That being said Cruz and the Republicans better have a sensible replacement for this mess! Republicans are in the drivers seat and Dems facing the voters in 2014 are praying for covet will cut a deal. The Only question is if Obama OR Reid will try to block it. If they do loss of the Senate is guaranteed!

The Law Is Unconstitutional...

...it should have been found so by the Supreme Court. If it had been, Americans would have been spared the $trillions of wasted money, the pain, and agony it has/will caused.

We have three co-equal branches of government. They are supposed to police each other. The policing is what protects the American people and fosters a prosperous Economy.

The Administration demanded a law intended to destroy America. Congress used ideologues to write it and legislative tricks to pass it. Not a single Republican voted FOR it. Democrats in Congress and the White House steamrolled it into law. The Supreme Court had a duty to stop it. They failed by one vote....Roberts'.

Would Democrats have screamed bloody murder? Of course they would. They screamed bloody murder when Gore was denied the ability to steal the 2000 election as well.

The sun still rises.

I agree Harley-the law is

I agree Harley-the law is Unconstitutional because it was "reasoned" into action by the most bizarre logic "The 5-4 majority opinion, written by Chief Justice John Roberts, upheld the mandate as a tax, although concluded it was not valid as an exercise of Congress' commerce clause power. So the SCOTUS rules it is unconstitutional to mandate people to buy health care insurance, but they could tax people for not following the mandate. Say what? Yep Congress CANNOT MANDATE individuals to buy health care insurance, but they can tax them if they don't follow the mandate-effectively mandating people to buy health care insurance or pay a tax. Dang I'll pay the tax just out of spite.

Keep Your Eye On The Ball...

It's important to remember several key points about Obamacare...

1. This initial version (public exchanges serving as brokers for private insurance companies) was designed to fail. It's only a very tiny aspect of the total conversion to "obamacare," but a necessary first step. These failures we see are part of the plan.

2. After a certain amount of whining and gnashing of teeth, the government will conclude that it just can't work like this. They'll claim it's the fault of the "evil insurance companies." They will announce that the only solution to this "health care crisis" is for the federal government to step in to "fix it." They will bill themselves as the only possible salvation from the crisis they created in the first place. Millions of Americans will support such a sham.

3. The net result of all this will be a further erosion of the middle class, a fleecing of the rich, and a further entrapment of millions and millions more Americans as dependents of the federal government for more and more of their lives.

4. A giant leap toward socialism/communism. This is, after all, what it has ALWAYS been about.

"Bottom line: Obama lied,

"Bottom line: Obama lied, your health plan died."

Obama lied, America as we know it died.

And harley_52.....you are absolutely right. This is ALL happening AS DESIGNED.

The Republicans need to step back, quit hollering about fixing it, and let it collapse on itself and THEN refuse to approve a government single payer takeover. Their only offer should be free market, across state lines, with provisions for NO cancelation due to illness, and a NATIONAL POOL for those who are already ill and can't obtain standard insurance.

Obamacare is a Democrat catastrophe they need to stew in it until the 2014 elections. The Republicans should just shut up and let people see what an oppressive Communist government program feels like.

"That being said Cruz and the Republicans

.
Not really. It's not on the Republicans to bring order out of chaos. They were shut out of the process by Democrat political muscle, media bias and and a misguided Supreme Court.

If Republicans had been able to participate we wouldn't be in this mess. "Fixing it" is totally impossible. The Dems brought down this disaster on America, they need to fix it and without the power of a dictatorship!

It wasn't Republicans who were climbing all over each other to get in front of this parade. So don't expect Republicans to follow behind, scooping up what the donkeys dropped in the street.

Don't want to hear about all the "great" stuff in the bill. That's all smoke and mirrors and impossible to achieve. Allowing the program to crash and burn won't deprive anyone of any benefits because the entire plan was never anything but an ephemeral liberal sham.

It's dead now. The Democrats should do the honorable thing and pull the plug. Then get to work and write its obituary.
