Facts and figures cannot take the place of being humane. This is probably why Canada and some countries in Europe have socialized medicine. This is based on the humane belief that all citizens should have access to health care. I believe literally millions of Americans and I agree on this point.
How many decades have a good number of Americans gone without health insurance? This is most likely the main reason for Medicaid and Medicare. It is not because I am on Medicare that I favor it much more than Medicaid. Medicare is partially paid for by specific payroll deductions. Medicaid is paid for totally out of taxpayers’ pockets! Do I think recipients of Social Security and Medicare should give up a small percentage of their allotment? If there is a means test that will prove some recipients will not be negatively affected, then yes.
Obamacare is just as necessary as Medicaid and Medicare! And, again, I have to side with the millions of American citizens who finally can purchase health insurance for their families.
If there is a coming shortage of health professionals with Obamacare and an aging population, then it is past time to do away with this abomination of “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” way of doing business with medical school postgraduate admissions! The pipeline must be opened up for the thousands of intelligent people who are just sitting around waiting for their chance to prove themselves to be great health care professionals. Who knows? These people who have been waiting much more than their share of years to be health professionals may very well be the best and brightest of health professionals.
May the good-ol’-boy system in medical school, and for that matter everywhere, come to an immediate halt here in 2013! There is no place for it, ever.
