We need a clean sweep

  • Follow Letters

The shutdown is over, and it’s spending as usual. We heard for 16 days that all the president and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wanted was a clean continuing resolution. The Republican Party gave in only a day before potential victory and got handed a pork-filled CR. Did any of our local members of Congress stand up and say “no” to the pork?

We need responsible people in Washington, D.C., who understand that no matter how good an idea or program is, if there isn’t money it can’t be done – unless another already-funded program is cut.

We have a high taxation problem, a high moocher problem and a high debt problem. There is a need to cut, reduce and eliminate. Maybe the way to do it is put all-new people in D.C.

Thomas, I can agree that

Thomas,
I can agree that Washington needs to be cleaned out but there are a few, such as the Teaparty members, that are attempting to do the right thing. As for the rest, well we need to make sure that the ones that are replaced are not cut from the same cloth. D.C. is a cesspool of corruption and disconnect. When these politicians go the Washington, they immedicately join the "in" crowd. It is like some frat party that doesn't end until they leave office. There are lobbist and in-party pressures placed on these new members of congress, to conform. If any of these politicians resist the temptation to join in on the orgy of conformity, and try to do the right things, they are shunned and ostracized by their fellow politicians. The democrats are fully invested in drinking the cool-aid and many Republicans are doing the same. It reminds me of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. You fall asleep and a pod is sat next to you and in the morning you are transformed. That is Washington politics.

Excellent letter and excellent comment.

Very, very few conservatives ever go to DC and stay that way for more than a few years before they "evolve". There are some but they are few and far between. On the other hand, I've never heard of a liberal going to DC and "evolving" to a conservative. That shows me the culture and environment is a cess pool of liberalism and corruption that few fails to become coated with.

The answer is term limits as the Founders thought Congressmen would be people who would serve the country for a short period of time and then return home. It didn't take long after the Founding for politicians to go DC and serve themselves for decades and not the people.

Asking a politician to support term limits is like asking a tapeworm to quit eating on its host.

I predict...

I predict that the mid-term elections next year will show that the majority of Americans are COMPLETELY FED UP with the crap that's going on in Washington. It's hurting every hard working morally straight family in the country, and it's getting worse by the week. We all see it, and none of us like it. There are some in Washington who are genuine Americans, and they should stay, but the rest should be forced to find another country to corrupt. Perhaps Mars.

Two things "We the People" should demand of OUR government are;
1. Truth. Purposeful lies and misleading statements on a national level should be treated as treason because there is so much at stake.
2. Voter fraud. We all know that's what got the "great deceiver" a second term. If we don't address this issue now, he will become permanent.

The high moochers are the corporations who get bailouts. The high taxation problem is from corporations who don't pay taxes and hide their assets off-shore. The high debt problem is from two Republican wars...

We all know that congress and the white house need some cleaning. But the real problem is the difficulty of beating incumbents. They have great benefits that give them a huge advantage over anyone trying to unseat them. They will never allow term limits to become law because then they'll have to go back to living in the mess they helped create. As long as voters are stupid enough to keep re-electing the same slugs nothing will change. Low information voters who want something for nothing will keep the mess going until the whole country crashes.

We need a BALANCED BUDGET

We need a BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT to the Constitution with a cap on the tax rates and that only allows deficit spending in cases of war or natural disaster and TEMPORARY tax hikes to repay that money.

We no longer have "representatives". We have politicians...and we need to put a LIMIT on how much of OUR money the politicians can spend.

We have our man! #carson2016

I know exactly the man who can clean up the mess: Dr Ben Carson! He shares his vision here: http://www.washingtontimes.com/opinion/ben-s-carson/ - From his latest post "Your govt. is morbidly obese" he shares: "We now have a federal debt of $17 trillion, which continues to grow. The current administration proudly points out that it is growing slower now than before. Such a claim makes it clear that they do not appreciate the seriousness of our spending problem. If a balloon is so full of air that is about to burst, it would be far better to begin deflating the balloon than to put just a little more air into it."

The main difference between the idiot in the Whitehouse and Dr. Carson is Dr. Carson loves this country even though he grew up very poor while the idiot in the Whitehouse had very advantage. Obama's mind was poisoned by Frank Marshall Davis when he was a teenager.

Unfortunately it never really seems to work out that way. 'Throw the bums out... that is everyone except my guy, cuz he's the only good one.'

I would support Dr Carson in a heart beat.

If one wants to know where he stands on the issues, get a copy of his book, "America the Beautiful". There are a few positions he takes that I disagree with; but, shoot, I don't always agree with myself.
